Doe sthis include the use of skins? (That is the main reason I was looking at getting the newer version)

This is another matter. V. 3.x supports skins too.
You gotta register your bundled ROM version of PTunes: it's free at http://www.pocket-tunes.com/palm/

    V. 4.x acts the same, but it's not needed for skins.

I think it's more likely that the royalty rate hikes and the Internet Radio Equality Act is currently being considered by both the House and the Senate. It seems that internet radio is in danger!

Even my favorite local radio station is affected by it:

It doesn't cost that much to get the Deluxe version with AAC support. Then you will save on hard disk space and not have to buy more to keep 2 copies of everything.

I'm just the opposite. I like not having to carry a separate music player around with me. And, you can eliminate wires with a bluetooth stereo headset if you use the Treo to play music. iPod is a nice device, though, so I can understand why you wouldn't want to give it up. Me, I just refuse to buy an iPod so I don't have the problem of device juggling.

What about individuals who have a registered version of P-Tunes Deluxe 3.1X and update? Obviously after the trial expires, we'll have the basic version of 4.03 installed and useable but we will have to pay for an upgrade to the deluxe version. So does our decision boil down to keep your registered version of Deluxe or lose it and get Vista compatibility and some bug fixes or am I missing something?

Normsoft has said many times that there will be no more development for the 3.x versions of PT. If you want features that your current version doesn't have, you'll need to upgrade to the latest 4.x release.

Now that PT supports AAC this may help a little, but the vast majority are DRM, and I don't have the energy to convert all of them to a non-DRM format.
I use PTD with Napster and have no problems with DRM, except for when I try to use PTD and SAG!! I'd love to ditch my corded headphones, but, so far, no good!

Sorry about reviving an old thread but this seems like the right place. I just picked up a used 680 and have been going back and forth today comparing the output sound quality of various MP3 players (Kinoma 4EX, the built-in ptunes 3.0.9, and ptunes 4.0.3 in 'bundle' mode). I used a pair of Sony headphones that are the rubbery in-ear type, and really accentuate the bass. Only having one Treo, it was pretty hard to get a true A/B comparison but to my ear ptunes 3.0.9 was clearly inferior to the others. The low end seemed a lot muddier and the stereo imaging was messed up, and it was just really unpleasant to listen to. Fortunately the 4.0.3 update is a freebie and I had room for it in the RAM, and I would advise anyone else who thinks their Treo doesn't sound as good as it should to give it a try. Assuming, of course, that it wasn't all in my head. Anybody else notice improved audio quality between 3x and 4.0.3?
