is there any chance the GSM radio board can attach to a CDMA main board? (ie there may be an unlikely chance that the mainboards are the same but the radio module is different) then flash it with a GSM rom... has this been tried before or is it a big no-no ?

The CDMA motherboard will work in a Cingular phone, I know that for sure because I have been using mine for a year that way. Do a search and you will find some threads on replacing motherboards.

Thats a great design bonus for palm if the mainboards are identical. But why arent the GSM radio daughterboards as available (on ebay at least) as the mainboards??? If they were, I'd buy at least a dozen.
