ok so I got to play with my brother's windows mobile device yesterday and I still like palm better except for a couple of items.

the main one being it rings him as soon as new email arrives and it automatically sync's when he enters something in his phone, it magically appears in his computer.
Am I missing something here? Why doesn't our palm device do this? Or does it?

The only option I found in versamail is autosync every 5 mintues. I turned that on and it still does not notify my when a new email arrives. HATED.

Is there a better, easier way. I know blackberry is the same way and notifies you of new email, instantly. why doesn't our device do the same? IF it does, please let me know how to set that up.

that's it? I was using the wrong email program?

So I install Chatter and then email automatically comes through as it arrives and notifies me?

    If this is true, sweet!

your brother has exchange server for his WM device.

you can use versamail w/ exchange OR like other say...chatter.

I use chatter myself and its the ONLY program holding me back from the windows switch..

I have versamail and it only autosyncs every 5 mintues is the shortest time interval.
Is Chatter "as it arrives" ?

the rest of the window's phone was terrible... very very long lag and delays...

palm slaps it down, except for the mail.

also, it automatically sends info that you enter into the phone, into your computer without syncing... can our 755p do that?

if you want it to alert you, you have to go to the options and go to alerts and select alert me when new mail arrives

Versamail syncs "as items arrive" if you have Exchange Active Sync set up on the Exchange server. I get email, calendar, and contacts that sync automatically as new items arrive. It works great. I use to use Sprint's Business Connect and Versamail with EAS works much better. Everyone talks highly of Chatter and I'm sure it is, but I need my calendar and contacts to sync as well.

I have my email send me a notification to
    yournumber@messaging.sprintpcs.com

Every time I have a message hit my email inbox I get a text instantly, if its important I open VM and check it.

I find this method saves a lot of battery power since you dont activate EVDO unless you get a message you want to check.

Also its a good idea to get unlimited texts.

I just bought and installed chatter and so far I don't like it nor do I see where it will send me messages as they arrive.

I did notice somewhere that I saw a version of Versamail that had in the options "deliver messages as they arrive". In my version that came with the phone, the best I have is every 5 mintues.

Does that mean I need to buy a different version lol ??

    i guess i'm confused...

i just tried to set up a test a/c in versamail and in the beginning i set it to exchange, not pop. my work email is an exchange server.
but in the settings, I get the same under autosync, the shortest interval is 5 minutes.

I have been testing the way i had it as a pop a/c and set to autosync every 5 minutes and it's working perfectly. I guess I can live with it at 5 mintues, not the end of the world.

    my 2 questions now are:

    1. how does it get messages instantly and how does this eas thing work when I see in the settings that it's still 5 minutes.

    2. why is this so complicated to set up when the blackberry and wm seem like they do all this automatically and get messages instantly without any settings in the work server etc?

guess the bottom line is I will have to leave it at 5 mintues as apop a/c in versamail and it will do the job. just wondering why palm is so complex in getting instant emails compared to the other systems.

Once you get Chatter set up with a IMAP account you will get your emails FAST.. Before your PC gets the mail from the server fast

It's a very good program. Do a seach and you'll find all kinds of help with Chatter.

Best of luck and stick with it

I moved away from Chatter when Marc left and EAS came out. Versamail now gets my mail before my PC. I'll hear the mail chime from the Treo in my pocket and then check my Outlook mail on the Desktop!

If you get chattermail and set it up with an imap account it will be pushed to your treo and you will be notified right away. I set up a EmailTreo account with Chattermail and have all of my mail forwarded to that email address and they get pushed to my Treo. EmailTreo is an account that ChatterMail offers you when you install it. Its free for 6 months then like 20 bucks a year after that. Granted its only a 250mb account but 90% of my emails are all text so it will take me a while to fill up that account.

but it seems complex to get EAS set up? You need to get the IT guy involved and change settings on the work server??

didn't seem like the WM phone needed to do all of that, or maybe I'm wrong.

the other problem is, I sync both at work and home but to Palm desktop, not outlook.

I guess that is the first step, to change to sync to outlook and move all my contact there? Then what happens when I sync to a different computer with a different outlook which carries my home email pop a/c?

this is all very confusing.. lmao
