I just got my 680 and am wondering what apps a crucial for productivity, stability and adding or fixing functionality of this Treo?

One thing I hear somewhere else that I hope makes it to the 680 is the app that uses the camera to sense ambient light and adjust the screen accordingly. That would be really nice to have.

ok I guess I'll let you know what I have and someone can chime in and tell me what I'm missing. My first Palm device was a Visor, so I've been around Palm OS and hardware for a long while:

Agendus 11 Premier and Agendus Mail
    Palmary Clock Wireless
Just switched back to MegaLauncher from ZLauncher since it seems to work well with a Treo (I can't get the Treo to make Zlauncher available from the Home button)
    DialByPhoto
    4Cast
    Google Maps
    SharkLinks
    pNotes
    SplashID
    RescoBackup
    Fonts4OS5
    PalmRevolt
    TCPMP
    SoundRec
    Mundu IM
    eReader Pro
    GooSync
    Bhajis Loops
    List Pro

Anyhow, that's all I've decided to move over from my TX, there are things like UDMH and UnCache that I'm not sure I need on a 680. That's the sort of thing I'm looking for. Owning a TX forces you to know how to push your device, the 680 is way more lenient because it doesn't have the same DB cache limitations.

Maybe a 1-button launcher like 123-Launch would be good, any suggestions?

I think freeware is what you need to make zlauncher work the way you want it to.

    Add to those:
    Destaller
    Resco Backup
    File Z
    Battery Graph
    Dir Assist
    Skinner
    Opera Mini
    Treo Launcher
    Splash Money
    Reset Doctor
    2-Day
    Card Reader

I'll be trying this out.. I wonder if it helps on the apps which launch the default Launcher on exit, that's really my biggest annoyance. Otherwise, I have LudusP set to Launch ZLauncher on home. Although it doesn't let you switch categories with the Home key in that configuration, perhaps this is better if only in that regard. I'll have to give it a try tommorrow, it's very late for me tonight. Thanks for the link!

The buttons dialog doesn't show the Home button, so I'm not sure how to use this hack. That's the nice thing about MegaLauncher, it is still in active development so it has this fixed natively. That's why I went back to it after a long time away, but I actually love the file manager and it now has FTP support! I haven't tried it yet but potentially I can use FTP to upload a Resco Backup file to my FTP on the road.

And Shortcut5 is great, I was able to beam all my old shortcuts over from my TX no problem.

You need to install a hack manager like YAHM-- http://yahm.palmoid.com/

Launch YAHM and activate TreoHomeFix Hack

Ah, ok. Without having to use YAHM in a long time I completely forgot about it That totally fixed it. Now I have the dilemma of which launcher to use. MegaLauncher really does have a lot of really nice redeeming values, but Zlauncher has transparencies

Yep, as soon as I read that in the readme I deleted it. No thanks.

ZLauncher is in active dev, and has the home button fixed for a long time too.. I assume you weren't referring to that.

Only caveat is that it hooks HEDE, so I personally don't set the option in the prefs, I just let LudusP handle it.

Zlauncher and Treo 680 - just wanted to add that I do not have any problems with Zlauncher on my Treo 680 , pressing the home button cycles through the categories... there was an update on the zztechs website for the 680 - and used that without any issue.

That's ok, I deleted it off my device. With the smaller screen MegaLauncher just seems the most efficient, and I'm hoping to make good use of the FTP functionality. They both are good launchers though. YAHM is going by-by!

The Single Button Launcher, where can I find that? I would like to try all these types of 'Launch Anywhere' launchers, Hi-Launcher is either configured poorly by me or has some issue with PalmRevolt, but anyway I'd like a free alternative anyway.
