After having hotsynced back to get all my data back to the phone, the Treo said I need to reset, which I did.
But now, my Treo's screen goes black/off after the progress bar on the first splash screen (the one with the orange palm logo and the black progress bar at the bottom) reaches 100%.
Tried hard reset button, battery in/out, SD card in/out, ... no luck. It always stucks there. Is it dead? If not, how to bring it alive?

    Thanks for your help
If you hard reset does it come up, and then you get the same problem aftr restore? Or it was woring but after you restored you can't even hard reset anymore?

All I need to do is:
Download the custom ROM from Post #1
Add the 4 AT&T files from post #5
    Follow the normal update procedure.

Is there an "original" backup ROM available if one needs to restore back to stock condition or does just using the latest Palm Updater for AT&T do that?

    Thanks,
    Ed

Correct, you can run the official updater to get back to original as yours is an AT&T phone. (Original meaning full 1.09-ATT)

I installed the custom ROM #1 on my locked Rogers Treo680. It's working great! I'm not sure whether it improved the overall speed. But the reset is a lot faster and I do enjoy larger DBCache.

    Thanks jamesgangut, MFB and tomtastic!!!!

Wait a sec .... If no one has a dump of the original how were they able strip it down and reflash it to the custom roms?

Now I'm really confused. Or maybe you misunderstood my question.
I know this thread is 34 pages long, but if you muck up your 680 you will wish you had read them all before you started.

The fact that you can not go back has been repeated load of times in this thread, and the reason why. Plus there are some 680's which will crash & burn if you do the update.!! This is a completely different process to the 650 Custom ROM.

Perhaps you need to read all the pages

First thing I did was view the All category. The only V entry was VoiceMemo.
I did notice my Resco backup, under Restore/Application, lists Versamail, though apparently only the databases are backed up.
It's a good opportunity to try the much touted Snappermail, though Versamail did all I needed it to do. (Is VM available as a standalone installable, other than, it appears, for $9.99 from Palm, in which case there's a question about whether the 3.5.4 version for the 700p is suitable for the 680?)
Other than that relatively minor glitch, the process worked as advertised. My 680 seems a snappier. All that remains is a week or so use to see whether it is, indeed, more stabile Thank you, Jim, for the thread.

It's been so long since I had it on my 680, but...is Versamail under the "V's" or under the "M's" (Mail)?

Silly Wabbit! Trix are for 680 users. It's under the Es.

It's called Email in the launcher - and there it is, in the proverbial "last place I looked."

    Thanks for the hint.

BTW, I did download the trial of Snappermail, but it's going to have to show me something special to be worth the price of the non-trial version.

But in the event I do decide not to go back to VersaMail, is it possible to overwrite, say, Cust2 with Cust1 (the no-VM version)? I just read two posts, each saying the opposite answer.

Could it be that it's possible to go back to a branded AT&T version, but not to an unbranded version (what I have)?

I just put this on the Yahoo Datebook list, but it seems a good question for here, as well.

Has there been any delving into the possibility of a Custom ROM without Palm's Calendar and Contacts apps? That would be for those of us using other calendar and contact managers such as Datebook and TakePhone, both of which use the Palm databases, but appear not to need the Palm applications.

From what I remember, you'd still need a "stub" app for each of the PIM apps you remove, else you wouldn't be able to Hotsync their data. I don't remember, in such a case, how their databases are recreated - perhaps its only via Hotsync; the 3rd party apps depend on those dbs.

    Replied on Yahoo group

in short: some apps do need the 'old' applications, better to leave them where they are.
Even DB6 requires Calendar to send using Bluetooth

It has been made abundantly clear that one cannot go back to the original ROM. What is not so clear is whether one Custom ROM may be replaced with another; e.g. Cust2 with Cust1 or Cust3 with Cust5. In some posts, it appear the answer is No, but in at least one other place the answer was that a reflash is possible.

Or is reflashing dependent on the device in some way.
  15. #675
I flashed all the versions all the way from version 6 or so down to 1 which I found, just like Red Riding Hood, was just right. I don't think there's any reason why you can't flash and reflash. The reason you can't go back to the original is not that it can't be done technically but that it isn't available, I believe.

I think you either missed my question or I wasn't clear the way I stated it. Let me try again:

#1) I have a 680 LOCKED to AT&T with the latest 1.09 firmware update. Can that be updated with the customer ROM "as is" using the files posted here or do I need to add/replace files because it's the AT&T firmware update. I wasn't clear on that. It seemed there were 4 files to be replaced but then later on in the thread there seemed not to be any longer.

#2) - The one you replied to. If I flash a custom ROM removing (just as an example) VersaMail, Ptunes, Getgood & DTG and 3 months from now I want to SELL my 680, is there another flashable package that has ALL the original software in it that would put it back to "factory condition" so I can sell it to someone? I didn't see a "virgin rom" update to restore all APPLICATIONS back to stock.

I'm wouldn't want to flash firmware 1.09 back to firmware 1.04. All I would want to do is restore the device to "stock application" condition.

Nothing changed on my device so it must have been a network thingy ...
I know Orange and PLUS is showing up correctly, however my sim is bound to ERA, and with this it is becoming a problem. However, all of my other cell phones shows ERA correctly.. only the palm shows "Invalid Character Set". therefore i belive it may be caused by the customized ROM.
