    Hi...

I'm kind of desperate to make my Treo work.... I followed instructions here and could not proceed further as it says "Update in compatable with this model..." I use Treo 680 and recently picked from ebay....

Here is the post I requested this community to help me...

    http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...d.php?t=149840

    Phone Info:
    Software: TREO680-1.03-CNG
    CC-Cap:000-000-000
    Carrier DB:292
    Hardware: A

Is there a way I could wipe out complete OS and reflash it... appreciate your help....

You need to copy 4 files and overwrite those in your download custom rom if you are Cingular user. I believe these files are available in the first three pages of this topic.
Originally, these custom rom's are for ROW. That's why you will get error message during updating process.

Scan back through the messages, you need the packageversion file for Rogers. Just replace that file and you should be fine.

Thanks Jamesgangut... I thought I'd already tried that and I reminded everyone using Rogers to do the same when I posted my success story... wouldn't I look silly if I didn't use this file for a subsequent reflash... maybe I'll give it another go from a different machine, i.e. create a new set of custom rom files... chances are I ballsed something up along the way... fingers crossed.

Ocht, downloaded custom ROM version 5. It went to Winzip when unpacked, but when I export it it does not go into a 'palm' folder as per the instructions. I have tried loading it to a newly formatted SD card in its raw state but it does not run on the 680. I then tried putting it into a palm/all 76 files, still no joy, then palm/launcher/ all 76 files, still not running. I have version 680-1.04-ROW
ANy ideas why this is not running automatically? TIA
PS - in all the above versions loaded to the SD card, the Treo does not see any of the prc files when viewing the card on screen.

In Winzip when you click extract make sure "Use folder names" is checked.

Guys, I have to say Thank You once again. I've been running jamesgangut's Custom 2 on my Crimson Unlocked for several weeks.

This week I got my wife an Arctic Cingular branded 680 (they're now down to about $230-$280 on ebay). I first did the standard Palm/ATT firmware/ROM upgrade to take her to 1.09. And I saw all the crap that was on there, and immediately downloaded Custom 1 for her device. Overwrote the 4 files in the ROM package as instructed, and it worked like a dream. I did this before gifting it to her, so she has no clue what was cleaned up, but I'm happy that all of the Addit and GetGood and other crap are gone.

She LOVES her new Arctic 680. For all she knows, Initiate is the standard Palm launcher now, and 2Day is the standard Calendar app, Chatteremail is the standard email, etc. Those are the first things she saw on her new device. I loaded her up w/ all my purchased apps since we've shared the same hotsync ID for 5 years just for this reason, but she's usually reluctant to try new stuff, having the "if it works, why change it" attitude. She's been a Palm user as long as I have (since the 1997 Palm Personal days) and is coming from a Tungsten T3 that has been her daily workhorse for 3 years.

OK, here is the problem I'm facing:

As soon as I turn the phone radios (holding the power button and release it after a while), phone tries to find the available networks and "resets". To my surprise, if I hook the phone to charger it stays and tries to look for networks and fetches the available networks. It then fails to register to the selected network.... This is what I'm facing......

Is this after you've restored your data to the phone? Perform a hard reset and test it again while it's "empty": any problem then?

Nope, problem appears before restoring any backup data... in fact I have nothing to restore and want to use the phone afresh...

    Try reflashing the ROM.

I am not familiar with the term "flash" having never attempted anything of this nature. I finally used the Palm supplied update because the 680 Custom ROM continued to tell me I had the wrong device and I was frustrated by my battery's miserable performance. Can I modify the 680 Custom ROM with the four files posted by MFB on 6/30 and then install it over the Palm update? Can the files be used in other ways to remove the AT&T startup screen, etc? TIA

Yes, that is what it will do.
