Done it. Thank you James. Everything went smooth as it should. Using Cusmtom ROM 1 in #1. then replaced the 4 files in #5. Read carefully then follow the steps in #3. That's about it.

One more thing, to get rid of the ATT Splash, just delete the 2 files in RAM and copy the other 2 back from #23 then this will give you a Treo Splash.

Thanks a lot for the help.

Hi, to all, I'm new here, I live in Mexico and have a Treo 680 from the Local Telcel company.

The info of my treo is:
    Line 1: (empty)
    Line 2: (empty)
    Firmware: MW01.50
    Software: TREO680-1.04-ROW
    CC-Cap: AMI-MAM-004
    Carrier DB: 378
    Harware: A

Can I use one of your custom roms? I willing to get rid of DTG, PT, addit and all the garbage that comes preinstalled. and also want to extend my battery life!
I do not mind getting and english only phone since the spanish translation is awful. And I allways use english as my phone language.
Do I have to backup the rom before proceding? if this is true then how?
    Thanks in advace to all

There is no way back. Once you flash a new ROM, the original ROM is gone for good (at least until, if ever, someone obtains the necessary tools). On the other hand, you can flash all the custom ROMs you want--I've done four, and ultimately decided on the most minimal one.

Ok I've done everything but it does not start the update it only opens the launcher where the card is and do not show anything on the screen.

It seems that the start.prc is not being started! Dam!
  5. #505
That's really surprising. Are you sure you followed the instructions to the letter? It's pretty hard to go wrong. What kind of an SD card are you using? Have you used it before?
  6. #506
Yes I have used it before, I just formated several times now with the treo and with the PC, it can be read with my TX, And I can see all files with resco explorer.
the card is an a-data 1GB.
Update, Ive tired with the bare bones ROM and with the Cust 1, but it seem that the treo do not want to start the flash! dam!

You sure everything (especially start.prc) is in /PALM/ (and then subsequent folders)?

Ok, the update started now. ( on the instructions I understood that all files should be on the rrot of the card)
but I got thr device not compatible error this time!
Thanks to holvoetn for the hint!
I've used the PackageVersion.txt.pdb form James post #98 but got the same result!

Ok, well I tested with cust rom1 and the file from post # 98 and now it worked!
    Thanks a lot to:
    jamesgangut, MFB and tomtastic!

The only thing I notice different is on the signal Bars a small triangle.

Thanks James and MFB for this custom rom. I recently updated mine and it worked flawlessly. There is no instructions to delete the PALM folder on the
SD card afterwards but I deleted it after installing the update. Is this safe or should I return it to the card. Thanks.
  11. #511
It can be removed, no need to keep it there.

I reformat just to make sure it doesn't install by mistake someday.

You've got to be very careful...

I'll tell you about cards: I dropped my 680 in the Mediterranean last month. I pulled it out within a second or two, dried it, etc. etc., and the phone worked for the next month with only a few keys (notably the power on/off key which meant I had to reset to hang up on every call) broken. But all hell kept breaking loose anyway, and it turned out the card was damaged by the dunking. I didn't really think that could happen, but either the contacts became corroded or the insides themselves became flaky (I think the latter, actually) and the card would just lose all its information every few days, which is why I now have the 8G card (and a new phone). Moral: next time the phone gets wet, attend to the card.

Salt water is a very corrosive substance to electronics.
What you should have done is to rince it carefully with regular water (after removing the battery, ofcourse), THEN dry it.

I bet the inside of your 680 does not look too pretty either now.

It actually doesn't look bad. I disassembled it, intending to put its crimson case on my new ugly graphite phone, but the last piece (the upper back) seems attached to some of the power inputs, etc., and I didn't want anything left from the flood except the plastic casing, so it is sitting here disassembled in front of me. I acted VERY quickly, but still couldn't save it all (no surprise) and just didn't think about the card. You're right, I could have safely washed it out completely in fresh or distilled water as long as it dried after. I'll remember that but honestly hope it never happens again (but I have a summer house on an island...).

I am pleased to say that after some sweaty hands and breath holding for 10 minutes everything thing went as smooth as the post said it should

    I used custom rom #2.

Living in Malaysia I was a bit concerned about the other posting about loosing GPRS. It did not connect immediately, but did eventually and all is OK.

I restored from NVbackup and it went perfectly.

    Thanks for everyone's help.

I have a carrier locked phone, can I still use these custom roms?

    Thanks.

Yes, custom ROM is just the software on the Treo. The carrier lock has nothing to do with it.
