Please advice me how to downgrade from custom 1.09ROW to original unlock gsm 1.04ROW

Thank you very much.

I think that's not only impossible but everyone has repeated it over and over again on this board

Hi folks
I still havent actually gotten around to updating my ROM, but have downloaded it and do intend to (except my 680 generally works well and I havent dared to fix something that isnt causing me much trouble). One question that may add incentive to doing this - Does anyone know if the ROM update overcomes the annoying problem known as 'The Glen Phenomenon'. ie the problem where if you dont hang up before the caller, the battery drain rate remains high until a soft reset. This is the main problem I experience. I tried searching, but didnt read all 24 pages of this thread, but hopefully someone can give me a quick answer.
6. #466
I don't know if it exists. I usually hang up. But I might have noticed it recently when I lost the ability to hang up so had to reset after each call--but resetting probably used the power I thought I might be using. You're right, you shouldn't fix it if it ain't broke, but having all that extra ROM does make a lot of other apps more practical--and I found, after my dunking in the Mediterranean, that I could load up programs in ROM that I usually kept on the card--not that I'd want to do that as a practice, but it is good for special occasions. You also are no longer reluctant to put all sorts of stuff in ROM that you might have otherwise thought twice about. But as to the Glen business, I doubt, if it exists, that the ROM removes it. But who knows. The TDS (Davis Supposition) is that it remains.
7. #467
I suspect you may be right about TDS, and there is no evidence that I can say to refute this. TGP is not a well recognised problem, even though I am quite sure it exists, at least for my 680 and also several other posters. I expect that if the folks who redid the rom did not know what the cause of the problem was, then they would not have fixed it, but it would be easy for anyone to test if they are willing, or maybe that it up to me. I still reckon that there are probably heaps of 680 users who are suffering from one big long unnecessary drain due to TGP without knowing it, but that is just my hypothesis. The DIG hypothesis (TDH).

Hi everyone,

I am getting Cingular branded unlock treo 680. What is the worst thing I can do to it using one the custom rom? And can/do I need back-up the factory rom before I start?

Many thanks
9. #469
You can not backup the factory ROM.
Worst you can do is fry the device mid-upgrade resulting in a non-functional device which will need to be resend.
If still in warranty period, you will most likely void it doing this.

I brought my treo 680 from here.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-UNLOCKED-ARTIC-WHITE-PALM-TREO-680-GSM-ATT-CINGULAR_W0QQitemZ180140555960QQihZ008QQcategoryZ38331QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem]here
Will it works with "Cust1" ROM??

Do I also need the "Treo 680 SD Update for Unlocked GSM ROW"(what is ROW stand for?) and the 4 files for ATT treo 680?

I am assuming the instructions are the same stated in post #3 for both update the custom ROM and for the "Treo 680 SD Update for Unlocked GSM ROW"??

Sorry for so many questions.
I am a treo newbie and don't want to fry my beloved treo.

Thank you all.

Look in phone app then phone info from menu. If your IF your software ends in ATTR or CNG you will need the four files. If it ends in ROW then you can just run them.

Just to be on the safe side .... I was looking at the un-zipped SD card update and saw a whole lot of file extensions that don't look familiar to me. The installation directions are Windows specific, so I am wondering if, as a Mac user, I can utilize the update running OS 10.4.10. Likewise with the Custom ROM. Last week, for no other reason than to see what it was like, I installed Boot Camp on my MacBook and let my son play a couple of PC games that he was given by a relative who has never heard of the Mac / PC compatibility issue. They played perfectly. So, I suppose is could give the whole process a go in a Windows environment ....

My Treo ( unlocked Cingular used on TMO ), software is v 1.03. Does that mean that I can't use the SD update?

Thanks.

I think it depends upon what software you have. Look through the thread a bit.

I have performed a search looking for the words "Mac", "Apple", "OS X" and a couple of other Mac specific terms and found nothing in this thread. I have also spent at least two hours looking through this thread's many posts and haven't been able to find anything that deals with ROM / Mac compatibility. Generally speaking, I have been able to download Zip files with Palm apps that were supposedly for Windows; open them, and found the exact same pdb and prc files, so no problem. The SD updater looks like a very different kind of animal to me. However, I haven't remembered to check out the two earlier Palm OS question. So, thanks for the reminder and I'll start looking for prior posts that might cover that topic.

Just installed custom rom option One and it went without a hitch. Just a quick question will my unlocked phone continue to be unlocked?.

Havent had any memory errors while downloading of the web. I used to get errors when trying to download a larged file before. so far so good.

Sorry! I was referring to your last inquiry about whether you could perform the update on your phone, not about your Mac concerns.

... .
The custom ROM should have no effect on whether a phone is locked or not, as far as I know.

Software updates have no effect on locking, so it will be the same as it was before.

My ROM update was a piece of cake. I got my new 680 today at the AT&T store. Net price after rebate is $50. I installed custom ROM2 which went in fine. I even unlocked the phone for $20 at www.gsmphonesource.com

Now I want to buy the Ptunes 4.x deluxe upgrade. Is is $20 or $30? However, since I don't have Ptunes installed in ROM I dont have a registration code. Any suggestions?

Just wanted to report a successful installation of MFBs custom ROM. I live in Asia (ROW) and everything went smoothly.

GPRS/EDGE worked instantly and automatically without needing any adjustments. This was my biggest worry after reading problems others were having but all went well.

After the update, I restored all my data from RscBackup excluding the files MBF recommended to exclude in his instructions. The restored Treo worked exactly as before apart from having to resetup the bluetooth pairings. But this is normal after each HardReset anyway.

Didn't notice any increase in speed though - even the reboot time was about the same as before. In fact, apart from the deleted programs from ROM, it seems to be exactly the same as before. Not sure about stability nor battery life yet.
