Hey... I just installed Microsoft Money 2001, and I can't decide which app to use with it for my Visor Prism. Basically, overall, which app is better? Ultrasoft Monkey or Pocket Money?

The both cost around the same price, so the real question is interface and features. And color. I like color. Of course, I realize neither has much color, so whatever.

Is there another option I missed?

Does PocketMoney sync with Money like UltraSoft?

If it doesn't, my vote for UltraSoft (software that I already own) stands firm as being better. I use Money to keep my Citibank accounts in check and use planning features, etc.. I wouldn't have bought UltraSoft if it didn't sync directly.

i've never tried ultrasoft but Pocket Money is a great program. i use it every day. i don't use microsoft money so i don't know if it synchs. i assume it does. i know it exports QIF files, which quicken reads.

PM has a 30 day trial period. give it a shot. (www.catamount.com)

OK, here's a question: I love Expense. (Yes, that little program that comes with the Visor.) My only complaint is that I can't change the categories for expense types.

Does anyone know of any 3rd party apps that is as minimilist as Expense but with this capability? All the apps I've looked at in this category are way more than I want to use.

    Thanks in advance,

How about the free XpenZ macro that replaces the Excel macro that Expense currently uses? This macro supposedly has some support for categories.

My vote's for PocketMoney. I've been using it for a short while, and it's done everything I needed it to with only one minor exception. But I can say this - when I eval'ed a previous version, I was getting an error during HotSync. I contacted the programmer (Hardy Macia, last name spelling notwithstanding) and he got right on a fix that took care of it. That level of support carries a lot of weight for me.

And the piggy bank icon, well...

I gotta vote for UltraSoft. It's quite robust and synchs seamlessly with MS Money. The only complaint I have with UltraSoft Money is the UltraSoft part. Their support is useless and it seems that once they get your money for registration you can go pee up a tree.

I won't tell you how I REALLY feel...

    Cheers,

I am very pleased with UtraoSoft money. It hotsyncs seamlessly to My Micorosft Money 2001.

Ultrasoft got my money, even though I don't use MS Money.

Ultrasoft Money is easier to use than M$ Money. It's more intuitive and since I've gotten Ultrasoft I've only used MS money once (to balance my accounts).
I make all my entries in UM and it helps with keeping things entered because I always have my Visor with me so frinstance, when I gas up the car, it's entered in before I'm on the street! It used to be that I'd save the receipts and enter them into Money every couple of days.

Oh yeah, bookrats, I was using a TinyByte called Tiny Checkbook which needs ThinkDB which is as minimalist as it gets for checkbook SW.

Y'know, I've just tried out SplashMoney, and I like it a lot. It's got a lot more power than I want, but I've been able to easily configure it to do just the things I'm looking for.

At this point, I'm thinking of paying for it; but I'd be interested in what experienced UltraSoft/PocketMoney users have to say about it.

I'm very happy with the Ultrasoft product but wish they'd come out with a home & business version.....

Ugh, just bought PocketMoney today from CompUSA under the assumption that it would sync seamlessly with MS Money 2001... needless to say, I had no clue as to how to do it. As far as I can tell, I had to create a qif file or something... anyways, I wanted something that didn't require like fifty steps....

Being the new user of a Palm OS device, I BARELY find out about Ultrasoft money after searching through the threads here... It's AWESOME! Integrates perfectly with MS Money and syncs without a second thought! Just wish it were cheaper I got MS Money 2001 Deluxe for only $15... and this costs $20 more! Oh well, I might just bite and register it... it's certainly a lot better than the $10 I spent on PocketMoney.. which in itself looks like a good program... just doesn't have the integration with MS Money I need....

That's the funniest thread title yet.

I'd have to vote for Pocket Monkey. Watching a monkey is much more exciting than entering check information.

Just a note; I went with SplashMoney. (That's where my "other" vote went to.)

Though "PocketMonkey" is still an attractive alternative...
