Yes, the memory space is so much better...that's one of my main reasons for the upgrade...and EVDO of course.

I was wondering, if I were to take on a hard reset and start from scratch, I would just need to load each program one by one, right. But how would my contacts, schedule and addresses get on? I would need to beam them from my 650? How do you beam everything over? Sorry for all the questions, but if this device would be lag free that would be great!

ETA: Also, since Ptunes and the IM program come with the device, would they be on it still after the hard reset...stuff like this makes me nervous!

When you do a hard reset it will wipe everything but anything within the ROM will remain so yes, pTunes and the IM app will remain. As for beaming, make sure you have Beam receive on, then go to the PIM apps (contacts, calendar, Memos..etc) then hit menu- beam category and then you select all to beam them all. Its not too bad, I like to Hard reset my treo every once in a while just for clean up purposes, guess that's why I'm not too shocked with it

There are several threads on clean installs in the 700p forum. The simplfied instructions are: sync to computer. Rename backup folder to something else. Hard reset. sync to get your PIM data. Test (if needed). Install programs via sync (either one at a time or all of them dependant upon how systematic you want to be.)

Can I ask a silly question? How do you do a clean install but initial get your hotsync id over to the new device without syncing everything from Palm Desktop. In order for me to start loading up my programs individually I need them to to be registered and the registration won't work without having the hotsync ID work. When I hotsync...EVERYTHING comes over, which I don't want to do...I went into the custom section of hotsync and said "do nothing" under anything that said install..but they are still coming over....hmmmmm, any help would be appreciated!

ETA: I don't see a backup folder anywhere...this is so strange.

The backup folder is located in the directory that the palm software was installed (C:\Program Files\Palm\) followed by the device name (in my case its Treo70) followed by backup. On my computer it is the following: C:\Program Files\Palm\Treo70\Backup

So far no lag except: Opening an email with snapper mail takes a good 2 seconds. Never had this problem with the 650, but all the problems I did have with that are gone on the 755.

Thanks everyone...I appreciate all the responsees. I don't see a backup folder in my PalmOne files...it's weird...but when I sync it is definitely backing up the old files. It seems like the lag is the worst between switching back and forth with Chatter...

I'm hoping Palm will release a new Desktop version that is Windows Vista friendly soon...when that comes out maybe I will try doing a hard reset again, but at this point I will live with the lag...it's not that long and the phone is sooooo much nicer!

You have probably mentioned the reason before but why don't you just delete everything you don't want back before you hotsync the first time, and then restore, although then I don't know why you'd need to restore.

The reason is that I am noticing a lag between programs that i never had on my 650. Someone suggested doing a hard reset, that maybe something carried over from my 650 was interfering. I cleaned up my files as much as I can at this point. The lag isn't terrible...I just never had it before with the 650.

I know that people say to do a hard reset but if you installed the new palm desktop software before you synced it should be okay and that probably isn't the problem. If you didn't do that, then sync your 650 again and then before you sync the 755 install the new disk over the old program and hotsync when it tells you to. It will put all the incompatable programs into a folder marked as such and your phone will be okay.

Comparing from the 700p, it's quite better in the lag department. Not as snappy as the 650 was, but it has enough RAM to survive and seems to have been built a little sturdier.

I have noticed a few times (seemingly randomly) that the web browser takes upwards of a minute to load (yes - I counted). But most of the time it comes up so quickly (only seconds) that I'm shocked, so I can take an occasional wait. The real beauty of the 755 is the bluetooth seems to remain paired, a few days and counting.

I've noticed chatter seems to take a little longer to exit home than it used to take on the 700p. I think this could be optimized, if Marc would be willing to do a little work for it. Also, anybody using Mundu? Well, the version I got I think is a little buggy and crashes my Treo sometimes when Chatter and pTunes are running on the background and I abuse it by using a web browser I know it is a little too much, but hey I get no lag and pTunes doesn't skip so I'm loving it. I hope Mundu could be fixed to work better.

I've run into lag starting and exiting Blazer, probably 3-5 seconds.

What I like to do is simply delete the user in Palm Desktop, create new user, and that gives me a clean slate so I can sync and just get my Hotsync name loaded onto the phone. Majority of my info can easily be beamed since I like to use the default PIM's so I beam all my appts, memos, contacs and I'm set.

Same here, but mine is 1-3 seconds

    Yeah,
    I have the same issues.
Blazer is a huge cause of lag for me.
    Switching between Blazer,
    and DBP,
or even back to my launcher,
    there's ALWAYS a lag.

    Oh well I guess.

There will be a folder that resembles your username. the backup folder will be inside that. Delete only the backup so your pim info will sync

In vista you will also need to remove your username file from the Hidden folder named "AppData" as well.

    Mine is SXTG/APPDATA/local/VirtualStore/programfiles/palm/XtgS

No matter how many times you delete your username or uninstall/reinstall palmdesktop your old info will sync back until you delete that file.

    Hi, guys and girls.

I purchased my 755p about a week and a half ago, and I'm glad I've found a group to help with the shake-down cruise.

I've throughly enjoyed the 755p, but I've noticed a lag, also--one I didn't have on my 650. I performed a semi-clean install (old HotSync ID, but renamed my back-up folder and entered apps 1-3 at a time). I guess I'm going to have to break down and change my HotSync ID and perform a completely clean install.

Another issue I've found is using PTunes to stream internet radio. It seems to knock me off the network every 5-10 minutes, so I'm always having to reconnect to the network. I'm using 4.03 on my 755p. Any thoughts on what may be going on?

    Thanks for your help.

    ajg,

Are you having any trouble with Butler on the 755p? When I installed it, my LED continuously blinked green until I uninstalled it.

    Thanks for your help.
