The new Cingular firmware will be posted tomorrow or Monday. From a very well-placed source.

Sounds good.. Now, the SD update, then custom roms.
  4. #4
Took about 15 minutes. No problems except that I seem to have lost the custom categories I set up as well as what I set up on the phone "favorites" screen. Everything else seems fine.
I guess we'll see what happens with the battery life.

I wonder how long before there's an unlocked version?

Just upgraded my firmware and software. Worked fine. Now to see if it actually made significant improvement in battery life.

    Nothing very exciting about this.

Besides the branding change piece (and the "gibberish fix"...had that been addressed yet?), this update just moves the already-issued patches to ROM.

Well...it does say "Improved power management for better battery life" which is differentiated from the "camera update for better battery life." If it significantly improves battery life and fixes the gibberish problem (not addressed in a previous patch), this update is what we have been asking for.

I doubt there's any difference between the "camera update" and "improved power management", but the issuance of this update does mean that we'll probably have a 680 ROM tool available in a week or so.

Well, I'll take any little difference if it helps the battery life.

    # Improved power management for better battery life.
    # Camera update for improved battery life (available previously as a standalone update).

I experienced a couple of cosmetic glitches doing the udpate: 1) the "elapsed time" counter and progress meter changed only when I physically moved the wireless mouse attached to my desktop machine, and 2) at the end of the update (15 minutes later), the screen on my computer said the update had completed, but the screen on the Treo still warned against touching until complete. Upon restart, the Treo works fine and shows the updated versions of firmware and software. The background on the phone screen is different, but my service still says Cingular and not AT&T.

Does anyone know if NVbackup can restore post update from a preupdate backup? If so did you actually do it successfully?

Sooooo...from the requirement list, it looks like I can't upgrade on my XP Pro OS? Why do I have to do it on Vista?

Oh...I'm an *****. Looks like IF using Vista...I have to have certain things...it doesn't say I have to have Vista...right?

After the update mine went into an endless loop reset between the Palm and Palm Access splash screens. Did a hard reset and that fix the problem. :/

yes, we know. just because something is "specified" for one phone, doesn't mean that there aren't people who might want to try it on another platform/phone. how many programs are meant for the 650 and people have tried on 680s, and successfully run? Plenty of them. I think he was just asking if anybody HAS tried it on an unlocked 680
