can anyone attach any battery tests to see if there is a significant difference? (e.g. battery graph 1 day before and 1day after the upgrade)

Has anyone who uses Goodlink run the updater? The palm web site indicates that if you use Good you will need to download the software and reinstall, and that you need to go to the Good.com site to get instructions on what to do. I couldn't find anything on this at Good.com other than a link to the Palm.com web site that has a link to the Good.com web site!?

My question is, if you are running Goodlink and install the ROM update can you reinstall Good from a backup on the SD card? Or is there something in the ROM that requires a new version of the Good software?

Is there a way to restore the Cingular Logos and splash screens post update? I personally like Jack and would rather see him than the AT&T globe. I know that there was a way to extract the logo/splash screen image files on my old 650 but never got around to looking for it when I upgraded to a 680.

    Well, my update is done.

First, I moved a bunch more stuff to the card so I had 45+MB free RAM. Then I hotsync'd. Then I did an NVBackup. Then I backed up my SD card to my PC. (Can you tell I'm a little paranoid? ) Then I tried the update from my work PC. I'm not sure if it was the fact that I used a different PC or the fact that I had more RAM, or the fact that I removed a 3rd party software conflict, but it worked. Took about 19 minutes. Hopefully if someone else has the same problem I did, they can try these things and have some success.

For everyone else, I'd recommend at least clearing up some RAM before you start. It's interesting to note that if you install it from the SD Card, Palm recommends that you have at least 32MB available on the card. Maybe the same rule should apply to RAM if you're using the hotsync method? Just a thought....

I guess you might run into a problem if you had installed the patches Palm previously released for the 680.

Those patches added files in RAM, which would be included in your backup/restore cycle. So, the ROM update has a fix for the problems and the patched files in RAM have a fix, and we can only guess whether they are one and the same or whether they somehow conflict with each other.

I originally had 21M free space and it would not go through. The rep told me you need 13M-obviously wrong, I deleted a 32M program and now it went through. IT WILL TAKE NEARLY AN HOUR TO COMPLETE IF IT DOESN'T GO THROUGH...I never disconnected mine and it finally completed, but unsuccesfully the first two tries. The last time it took 18 minutes. Seems to work - funny thing is it still says Cingular up top

Im just updating my unlocked to get the benefits of the fixes enumerated. I have done the firmware update on the unlocked, it just has a problem when dialing a number from the favorites. As soon as the unlocked comes out, I'll update to that.

Thanks for the confirmation that the update wont lock an unlocked gsm but a full update is not possible. A message pops up saying device is incompatible with the update.

    THANKS!

    Hope you're doing fine
    I'm always fine...

I'm gonna wait to do the update until I hear of some significant improvement with the battery life. If there's none, I'll just do it when they crack the bootloader...

I wonder how long before there's an unlocked version?
Why was this posted when there's already a thread right below it saying the same thing? Do people never read? Now we have two threads with people posting the same responses to each one! Crazy!

Thanks Bill - thought I was going mad reading the same posts twice!

Looking forward to the verdicts on battery life - and the release of a ROW equivalent...

According to Palm, "Palm Install Tool and Palm Quick Install ,the desktop applications that let you transfer applications and databases (.prc and .pdb) to your Palm device, are currently not compatible with Windows Vista."
So if the update wipes my 680, how do I get "my stuff" back? Anyone
    have an answer?

You should be using a backup-to-card solution, for just such a situation. Resco Backup gets good reviews, NVBackup is free...I use BackupBuddyVFS.

I bought a Seidio 1300 mAh battery for 680. However when
I put into Treo, it froze - reset the clock to an odd setting etc.
I went back to original battery and emailed Seidio as a
warranty issue. Seidio tech support left me a telephone
message this afternoon, said the problem was in Palm and
is resolved with the latest update. Ergo there is something
more than the previous "camera" fix regarding power management.

I'm a "belt and suspenders" kind of guy. I use HotSynch and
BackUpMan. But first, if you don't have an extra SD card (I do), you
have to go buy one; second, will previous updates conflict with
the this update when you do a full restore; third, Palm's final
instruction in step 9 to Vista users is, "Perform a HotSync operation
with your Windows Vista machine to restore the data you backed up
at the beginning." how can that work?

Just wondering if anyone knows if this update will help stop the Palm software from coming on a few times a day?

It's dead simple; back up with NVBackup. It's free.

the upgrade didn't fix the bluetooth car problems that the 680 has (compared to the 650)....2nd incoming call causes the 680 to drop 1st call etc.

Huh . . . have never tried the BT car connection, but I always have 2nd incoming calls and the 1st never drops. Of course, I also have never had all the problems that seem to be so prevalent with the 680. Just the gibberish issue and that was only a couple times a week on average.

Rats....I desperately hoped that Palm would have finally fixed that annoying Bluetooth problem in the 680...Maybe in the unlocked version update, but when will that be released, if ever...????????

See my thread about struggling with my Treo 680 and Parrot CK3100 carkit...
