    Really?

Well, if that's the case, your only choice is to backup, delete the file from the backup, hard reset and restore.

That's what I thought. Though I don't understand why. I'm not sure that's the only file that this Singapore patch installed. I had the feeling that there were two of them, because the instructions on how to catch whether it actually worked were to check the size of two files, one of them being this one. I think.

And now that I think of it, it says if you hard reset, you have to reinstall the patch, it won't reinstall just by syncing--so maybe that's all I have to do, hard reset and sync. Besides, I looked in backup, and neither file was there.

The only way to know what the patch installs is to compare an image of your device before installing it to one after the install.

Using the Info menu from the native app launcher on my device (no singapore patch) shows a size for TelephonyInterfaceLayer of 0; while FileZ says it's 164k.

If you don't see a TelephonyInterfaceLayer in RAM and your Info menu shows a size other than 0, then there's obviously another file at work.

I sucessfully deleted both TelephonyInterfacelayer and PhoneInterfacelibrary by using resco explorer. Just download and use the 30 day trial. These are the 2 files installed by the singapore updater. I removed both as it caused some lag and pauses with some of my apps.

Thanks. I might give it a try. I haven't noticed any new lags and pauses--but my 680 lags and pauses at almost everything anyway so perhaps I don't have a noticeable problem, if any.

I wonder why Resco would work.

Does anybody know exactly what the security issue is that is being patched ?

It's explained on the site; click the link in the first post.

    As bill says

    Quote:
"When the Treo 680 smartphone password protection is enabled, the password protection can be partially circumvented by running the Find feature while on the "Make Emergency Call" screen. This would allow a malicious user to view a list of search results from the Treo 680's built-in applications such as Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, Memos and Email. The malicious user cannot access or display anything beyond the search results list. An update is now available to address this. "
    Thought of the day :
No sense being pessimistic, it probably wouldn't work anyway

When I applied the Security patch, a new version of HSNav was installed. Aside from the supposed security fix, it also improved the dpad and keyguard response time. This was verified by other users as well. Installing the singapore patch made it go back to what it was before the HSNav speed improvements.

I dont see any noticeable benefit with the Singapore patch so I suggest you dont install it if you're not from that country.

Alas, I've not noticed the improved performance others are reporting after installing this patch. On the contrary, my formerly-reliable 680 is much laggier, and periodically freezes for several seconds. Moreover, I've now had at least two resets per day since installing it (including a weird one: "ABORT MESSAGE=Found illegal subscript = 0"). Before, I would have perhaps one a week. Thus, I'd like to remove it.

How do I remove the first two files? I'm unable to do so via FileZ. I get an "Error:dmatabase Protected in Item::remove(d)" error.

***Doh! Just noticed that Bill_Gamble addressed my question on the previous page.

I've install both the security & Singapore update and it seems more sluggish compared to before. Would like to try without the Singapore update, how do I uninstall..?

After removing the 2 files associated with the Singapore Update, i download Rlock and use it to lock the following programs:-

    1. Call Block
    2. CallRec
    3. Keycaps600
    4. Keyguard Ext
    5. Comet
    6. Phone Technician

Now my 680 is runnning like my former 650.....

I don't know Explorer. I just downloaded it and I can't figure out how to find these particular files (I found some in ROM but obviously they can't be deleted). Can you telll me how to find them and how to delete them?

ed.: I found phoneinterfaceliberary and deleted it by searching. But I could not find telephonyinterfacelibrary; instead I found telephonyinterfacelayer. Is that it?

I have noticed less lag between screens and definitely less lag when powering on and getting through the keyguard.

I followed somone elses lead and down loaded and installed Rescoe Locker and locked a couple of apps into memory and that seems to help as well. Now if they could really do something about the battery drain issues I would really be happy.

    Yes

I use NVBackup, but if I hard reset the 680, do I still need to rerun the camera update, security update, dst update, etc AGAIN? Or is it ok with NVBAckup?
  19. #79
It should be okay, but I hear otherwise.

BTW, just run the whole ROM upgrade, don't bother with the security patch.

Did a hard reset and patched to the new Treo 680 version. Reinstalled from backup. Now I get a reset every 5-15 minutes from Mundu Messenger. My phone app (using #*377) tells me each time that Mundu IM 4.0.0 is the culprit. So effectively, this patch has rendered Mundu useless. I guess I'm going back to Verichat until either Mundu or Palm figure out WTF is going on.
