Same thing here. Even with all the sounds turned off & the top switch set to mute. Same thing for 2 friends who also have the 755p.

I get it with texts sometimes. I also get it every time I'm on the applications page and I press a letter that is not the first letter of one of my programs. For example, when I press "B" it will take me to "Bejeweled" without the weird beep. Since I have no programs that start with "Q", when I press "Q" hear the mysterious 'dialing-a-number' beep.

Not the end of the world, but mildly annoying. I hope someone comes up with a solution.

Yeah it's not the worst thing ever but it was a bit annoying at first. Now I think I've just gotten used to it.

This beeping business is driving me nuts. Whenever I get an email, half of my "beep beep" alert is drowned out by that ****ing keypress sound. I really hope someone finds a fix for this, cause it makes me want to smash my head into the wall. :-/

I contacted Palm regarding this and they had me do a hard reset, and the beeping DTMF tone is gone, at least for the time being. We will see how long it lasts......

hard reset solves the double beep?
  7. #27
Well that last until I got my first email.....The DTMF tone is back.......

FYI; if you go in to sound preferences; NO SOUND- has that beep; and every other sound is preceded with that beep. And when I receive a call (or any other sound that is generated by the phone) it is preceded by that beep.
Is that the case for everyone else? Thanks.

Hmmm, I don't have the beep but I am going to propose a possible solution...

turn off the notification for when you are in range/out of range - that notice that comes on when you get your signal back, etc.

Does that fix it for anyone?

No. I think most folks in the thread have that turned off already.

I've got the beep too. I usually notice it if I do something "wrong." Like if I'm in a menu and I want to exit out and I tap the screen somewhere outside of the menu. I'll get the system noise beep and the phone tone. It's annoying, but I think I'm learning to live with it. I tried turning off my system sounds, I have escalation off, etc and I get it no matter what.

This could be a problem, if you are in court or someplace where ANY beep will result in the confiscation of your treo. Off should be Off, with no sound whatsoever! Hope they fix this ASAP (within the first year at least, unlike the 700P MR, which by-the-way is still not here yet).

No matter what sounds are doing what, if you move the switch on the top of the Treo to vibrate, it won't make a sound. That's how you completely silence the Treo.

Although very faint, I still get the beep when move the switch on the top of the Treo to vibrate. (it's so faint, I have to hold the phone up to my ear to hear it...but it's there.) For what it's worth...

Was under the impression that people could not turn it off no matter what.
If the switch turns off the Beep, great!

The switch does not turn off the beep (also very slight) that mine makes. I usually notice it when the signal is weak/fading in and out.

I just tried with the volume off and I could hear it as well. But it's so faint that I literally had to have the Treo to my ear to hear it. It's so quiet on mine at least that it's not a problem with the sound off.

Just another confirmation that this seems to be a common issue. Even when the sound switch is turned off, the "DTMF tone" is heard. Annoying indeed.

Anybody have anything new to add to this problem or a solution? Mine just started doing it....F__K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got my 755 yesterday (as a replacement for a 700) and this was the first thing I checked as my 700 started doing it after the MR.
Sure enough it does it. However with the 700 there was more of a delay between the two: beep (out of back speaker)....beep (out of earpiece). With the 755 it is more of a simultaneous beep where the two occur together. So that is a "slight" improvement, but still annoying and I think still "broke."
I went to the Sprint store to have them activate it and walked over to the floor model and sure enough - that 755 did it too. This was sort of a relief that it wasn't really worth it to start playing the swap game.
