Here is more information on Chess Tiger:

    Dear chess enthusiast,

You have requested the free text mode version of Chess Tiger for Palm, and we are glad to tell you that it will be on your Palm in a few minutes!

You can download the free Chess Tiger for Palm, text mode version, at:

    http://www.chesstiger.com/free_tiger.zip

But before you start enjoying this strong chess program, here are a few points to keep in mind:

    * This program is a free demo for our upcoming commercial version of Chess Tiger for Palm. This commercial version will be fully graphic and will include many more features.

    * You are really going to need a real chessboard if you want to play against the free text mode version, because as its name says, it does not show any graphic. So the chessboard is drawn with letters, and we admit that it is rather hard to read.

    * We strongly recommend that you to print (and read...) the user's manual. Depending on your preferred language you can print:
    * MANUAL.HTM (english version)
    * MANUEL.HTM (french version)
The manual is not long, so please have a look at it.

    * If you really can't wait playing against the program, then here is a quick start guide:
    * Install ChessTiger.PRC and Book.PDB on your Palm.
    * When you have launched the program, remember to type
moves or commands followed by the "Return" symbol.
What's this "Return symbol"? You enter the Return
symbol by drawing a "/", starting at the top.
    * Type a question mark followed by Return to get a
    short help screen.

    * This demo version will stop working in November 2001. At that time you'll have had plenty of time to evaluate it, and you'll have to either buy our commercial full graphic version or to stop using it.

    * At this time (May 2001), Chess Tiger is the STRONGEST chess engine available for the PalmOS platform. On a standard PalmIIIx or equivalent, it is around 2100 elo FIDE (probably around 2300 elo USCF). On an overclocked Palm it could be over 2200 elo FIDE (maybe 2400 elo USCF).
That means Chess Tiger for Palm is of Master strength. If you are not a master, it is going to be a fantastic challenge for you.

If you want to make it even stronger:
    * Overclock your Palm with a program like AfterBurner
(we recommend version 3.0 or higher).
It's easy and harmless, all Palms can run 2 to 3 times faster without any problem!
    * Give the program more time to think (see the "KO" command).
If you want to make Chess Tiger weaker:
    * Give it less time to think
    (see the "KO" command).

Updates and free bonuses can become available at any time.

Damn! I thought we were on to something here... 'Invisible' is neither freeware nor does it work on Visors (other than the Prism apparently). I've been looking for an app like that. I guess I'll keep looking!

whadya mean ... I beat Vexed within a week of loading it (maybe five hours playing time). Okay, there were a few levels that took several tries but overall, not too hard.
I got the new level set a couple weeks back but haven't had time to play (mostly 'cause I'm obsessed with Pilomns).

You forgot Traffic, another great free game.
And if you go to the Vexed developer's website [URL=http://spacetube.tsx.org]you can find solutions to all the levels. Vexed 2 is cool also.
    All these are also free:
Pyramid 5.0 is a neat solitaire game.
Perpex is another tough fun puzzle game.
    Runtime helps track battery usage
Converter is good for converting measurements, temperature, etc.
TimeDist is nifty and occasionally useful. It measures the distance of a lightning strike.
ePoch counts the number of days between any two dates.
Handy Shopper 1.7 is awesome and indispensable.
Handy Shopper 2.0 is different and equally indispensable

Invisible works on my Platinum. It only works with the original launcher, not third party launchers such as SilverScreen or Launcher III.

I just found a card game called "Railroad" at freewarepalm.com. It took me a while to figure out how to play it, but now that I know, I'm hooked!

    HOMER,
Thanks for the niggle(scrabble clone) game idea, it's great.

Just added Launcher III to my repitior simply because of the gadgets across the bottom. Deleting has never been easier.

As for niggle: I suck. I play best over someone else's shoulder.

LaunchMenu from www.fatal-error.com I think it's free -- I hit the register button, and couldn't register it.

LaunchMenu is by far my fave app launcher. Instead of going into the launcher itself, I just draw a graffiti stroke (configurable, but mine is from the house to the screen area), and a pop-up window of apps and categories appears . I get to choose the list -- I have some categories (like "games", "databases", etc.), but I can also put my favorite apps right there on the first pop-up window. The windows cascade, like the start menu on a microsoft os. Now, there's no reason to ever go into the app launcher, because I can simply pop up my programs and run them from the current application!
