This was a real pain. I'd be interested in any speed comparisons if you have an SD card to compare it to in your computer when the card reader arrives. Thanks for posting this info, very helpful to know.
    No problem.

Anyone know of any Palm based speed testing app?

And a good (free) one for the PC?

I got my 4GB Transcend SDHC card today. I've been playing with it for the past hour. I can tell you positively that it does in fact work on my 755p. Hooray! I inserted the card into the Treo, and the Card Info app immediately recognized the card and all 4 GB worth of space (or almost all, less a tiny amount as usual).

First thing I did was to reformat the card inside the Treo, and to rename the card. I then inserted the card into the adapter, and inserted the card into my Hewlett Packard m7640n desktop computer's built-in SD card reader, and the desktop immediately recognized the card.

I created several new folders: Audio, DCIM (for pictures and videos), Documents. The "Palm" folder was automatically created when I had first reformated the card inside the Treo. I copied a bunch of music to the Audio folder, copied a bunch of pictures and MPEG4 videos to the DCIM folder, and a bunch of Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and PDF files into the Documents folder.

I then inserted the card full of stuff into the 755p, and everything was recognized perfectly. Well, almost perfectly. The Documents app gave me slight grief, and asked whether I wanted to register the program. When I clicked "no" the 755p immediately went into a soft reset. This happened again a second time. Then on the 3rd try, everything finally came back to normal, and all my files are now recognized through the Documents app. Very weird.

Music plays fine, which I played using AeroPlayer instead of PTunes. However, I will tell you that I experienced between 1 to 2 pause or skips for each song I played. The skip was very momentary, but noticeable. There was positively a skip/pause. Nothing as bad as from the previous 700p whereby it would skip/pause very often every 10, 20, or 30 seconds or so throughout the song. It's a big improvement, but it's not 100% perfect, but close to it. Anyone else experiencing 1 or 2 skips/pauses per song?

I also installed TCPMP video player (old free version), and this too worked just fine and played my favorite movies (eg: Star Wars, and various porn).

Now here's the strange thing. The same 4GB Transcend SDHC card (with adapter) will NOT work in my other Hewlett Packard m7684n desktop computer. The card is only recognized with the HP m7640n computer (with AMD processor), but not with the m7684 computer (with Intel processor). Both HP computer are very new and purchased within the past 12 months. In both cases, I used the built-in SD card reader. Very strange. Always something!!

Casey, thanks much for the info. Do you have any large databases like 4-8MB and see how long it takes to open them up or delete them? Maybe with iSilo to read them or Zlauncher to delete them? My last Transcend was a turtle when it came to writing to the card and I'm curious to see if you find it tolerable when dealing with large databases. Thanks in advance if you get around to this and I hope you are enjoying your 755p!

Hi Talkin 73. You're welcome. No, I don't have any large database that resides in the memory card. My largest databases are problably DateBook6, TealPhone, and Beyond Contacts, all of which reside in the internal memory. I don't know what iSilo is so I can't comment. My largest (individual) files on the card so far are video files (eg: Star Wars, porn, and picture files) which I play back on using TCPMP and Acid Image Pro, and this seems to work okay.

Casey, thanks. Good to hear that videos work well. I have had problems with my 650 and 700p playing videos and they seem to get very pixelated not long after I start watching them. I'll be interested to see if there is any improvement with the 755p if I upgrade... though I wouldn't know if it's the OS, the memory card type, or something else.

Casey, do you have the PRC for the free version of the TCMPM player?

    Thanks,

I tested my Transcend 4GB sdhc mini-sd card using Card Speed. Here are the results:

    Wrt32bit: 453 bytes/sec
    Wrt8KB: 494611 bytes/sec
    Read8KB: 3276800 bytes/sec

The program reports that the "Card Speed is Excellent, Use any record setting". These results imply a write speed of about 0.5MB/S and a read spead of 3MB/S. I think that this program was installed on my original SD card when I was checking out Voice Memo or something.

In any case, my mini-sd card seems to be blazing fast. I think that it is a big step up from the 2GB SD card that I was using in my 650.

By the way, when I originally tried to copy the contents from my old SD card to my new mini-sd card, my i-rocks card reader would not recognize the mini-sd card. Fortunately, I had a Kingston SD to USB adapter which worked just fine.

    Hope this helps,

    Paul

can you guys with the 4gb transcends do me a favor & record about 5 mins worth of video directly to the card, & let me know if the video plays back normally...

oh yeah one more thing... is newegg the only place that carries the transcends?

*sidenote* bought a 2gb kingston that died after 5 mins of use.. originally the pc & treo recognized it, but now neither one can see the card, same results with 3 other card readers, so I have to RMA it back to newegg

If I get stuck with a 755 I'd like the ability to move the card around to all types of devices. Only need for SDHC (to me) is >4GB, which I can live without for a while.
I'll bet if you formatted on another Treo with the correct driver, it would be recognized by the 755p

I got my card from Amazon.

I have the Sandisk ImageMate 12-in-1 USB 2.0 Hi-speed Reader (SDDR-89-A15) and it is NOT reading my 4GB Transcend Mini SDHC card. It just never comes up with the drive. It will read my old 2 GB SD card from my T650 just fine.

Has anyone got it to work with the 12-in-1 reader and the 4GB SDHC card?

My Sandisk 12-in-1 is version 20-90-00136 and the Sandisk website says version 20-90-03066 accepts the following memory card formats:

    1. CompactFlash®
    2. CompactFlash® II
    3. SD™
    4. SDHC™
    5. miniSD™
    6. miniSDHC™
    7. MultiMediaCard™
    8. MMCplus™
    9. MMCmobile™
    10. RS-MMC™
    11. RS-MMC Dual Voltage™
    12. Memory Stick™
    13. Memory Stick Duo™
    14. Memory Stick PRO™
    15. Memory Stick PRO Duo™
    16. SmartMedia™
    17. xD
    18. xD Type M
    19. xD Type H

Maybe thats why it is not working. Crap.

I tried it with the adapter and without the adapter into the mSD slot on the 12-in-1. Both ways don't work or see card. Crap again.

that's good to know, I have a 4gb transcend card in my 650... it works perfectly except when recording video to it, I tried different cluster sizes etc, but no luck..

anyway thanks for the info, headed to amazon now...

What about the 1-2 sec pause with songs? I heard pTunes doesn't skip any more, if the 4GB cards does this and not the 2 GB I think I might get the 2GB instead, I don't like breaks between my songs.
