You install the MR, the phone resets, and then you re-sync all your apps. That's how it usually works.

Most apps work just fine after the MR/Patch, but sometimes you need to reinstall certain apps and change back settings to how you had them (some will go back to defaults).

That's why during the MR install you will be warned to back up all your data.

It'd REALLY be nice if we could get Vista-compatible version of Palm Desktop out prior to the MR release so that all of us Vista owners could reliabily Hotsync our devices prior to the MR install. Sigh....

Mine hotsyncs and installs just fine on Vista. I installed it by right clicking the "installer" and then checking the properties "run as administrater and run in XP compatiblity mode" then to be sure I right clicked the installer again and click "run as Administrator. after the install, I associated all .prc to open with the Instapp instead of quick install.

The device was just lovely, I bought one on eBay and got it unlocked. I slipped a SIM card and I have been using the 8800 for a week now. I love every minute of it, in the begining it was a little confusing I caught my self touching the screen trying to select something, but after few days it become natural. The funny thing is that I have turned my 700p off and forwarded my calls to the BB, and I have not touched my 700p for a week now. No withdrawl, no remorse. I will use this 8800 for the next couple of months and then when the 8830 comes out viola, my 700p along with accessories and a bunch of bonuses will meet eBay (along with this unlocked BB8800).
You know I would have switched to Cingualr if Sprint was not getting something along the 8800 line. I don't have to tell you guys, the BB has everything the 700p minus the lags, resets, inability to keep a paired BT device, and crazy bat life. What the BB adds is live GPS, seamless pairing with multiple BT devices, my three year old son was able to set my 4 email accounts (two of which are enterprise accounts and one hotmail and one google) all hooked up on my BB with real push email. The trackball is a joy to use, the automatic brightness adjustment, 2gb MicroSD, .... I can go on and on.
I have been with Palm for 10 years now, and from the Plam V to the 700p i have tried everything in between. And to be honest with you not much has changed in the past 10 years (yes i know the color screen the phone/pda, qwerty kb ...etc) but the same SW that worked on the V can be used on the 700p with newer versions. The blackberry has intorduced live gps, track wheel ... etc.
So Palm made it easy for me, with very expensive devices and poor support I am jumping ship too. This was nice while it lasted but what the BB has to offer is just way too much, and it will take palm several iterations to match what the BB offers now.
Well said. I'm right behind you in line at the Sprint store when the 8830 becomes available. The 700p will become a paperweight or dressed up pretty for a showcase on eBay. It was fun playing around with this thing trying to hobble it together, fix the slow speeds, diagnose its problems with all of you in hopes to make it what it should be. I'm so done with that now.
    Sprint Treo 600 (since October '03) --> PPC 6700 (exactly 29 days) --> Sprint Treo 600 --> Sprint Treo 700p --> BB Curve 8330.

If only Palm were like Bungie and released things earlier than expected.

Everyone was expecting Halo 3 to come out in November (when the last two came out), but Bungie surprised everyone by announcing a release on Sept. 25th!

Just to compare speeds between the 650/700/755.. I had one of my buddies come over that wanted to see the new 755p. As we all know the 650 runs circles around the 700 when changing applications and menus, I was surprised to note that the 755p is actually a tad quicker than the 650. So I hope the 700 MR fixes the lag issue and brigs us up to speck with the 755p then we would have one hell of a phone. (also having BT fixed would be nice, but I have given up on BT i see no hope in this area)

people say this all the itme the 650 runs circles around the 700p. I just synced all my apps from my old 650 to my new 700p and doing the same actions in sync, seems to show that they are very close to each other in applcation switch speeds.

Part of me thinks that there is a "bug" in the 700p but this is largely due to the fact that it has nearly 2-3 times the amount of memory for users to store programs and the 2-3x more programs means 2-3x more possibilities of background tasks causing delays, so they had to work around it. I think this, because my 650 and 700p with the exact same apps (about 15MB worth) feel the exact same to me.

But I'm late to the game in discussing this, so feel free to ignore me.

Good, you can start early by leaving threads alone and not posting drivel that those of us interested in the MR are trying to read. Go post that stuff in the "Replace 700p with..." thread found here: http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...d.php?t=142221

That way you can talk to all the people that care that you are going to get a Blackberry.

Clogging up threads with complaints about replacing the 700p is almost as useful as clogging up threads complaining about other users...

    So sasq,

    What's your favorite color?
I find it sad/odd that people ask to be thanked. How genuine is it when you have to ask? It's like forcing your kid to call Grandma, to thank her for the new underwear she sent for their birthday.

I don't believe this to be true because I have hardly ANY programs loaded on my 700p (I have 49.1 MB's free) and I STILL get major lags.

I wish that was the case!!!

I have a few programs loaded on my treo, and I have 57.9MB free!

Though this is a freshly reset device where all I put back was a few programs (ludusp, FileZ, hacked phone app for call duration in log, pssh, chatter) that i needed quickly, as well as all my contacts (500'ish) and my 500k phonecall list (goes back to 2004, and i'd be a happy man if there was a way to search it).

When my Treo 650 was loaded, there were times I'd get major lags as well (i.e. it could take chatter 20-30 seconds to switch back to the launcher).

Even after a hard reset the 650 is a heck of a lot faster.. Get them side by side, hit the home key on both then hit the phone key on both, the 650 has minimal wait time like the blink of an eye when changing to the phone application and it does this no matter what even after a month of us with no hard reset. In contrast my 700p when at home and hit phone button goes to a white screen for a second then the phone application appears. Same thing happens when changing between every application white screen first then bam. Right now my treo is on a diet in terms of programs I have 41mb of free space on the phone. (Memory card is at 890mb of 9xxmb)

the 650 is NOT an evdo phone. it won't stream internet radio like the 700p or video...so why compare these 2 phones? i don't get it.

i guess if evdo isn't important to a person, then it would be a mistake to "upgrade" to the 700p.

maybe palm should release a MR for the 650 that updates internet access to evdo so that all the 650 devotees will be happy.
