    Back on topic.
Okay Palm, no time for rest. With the 755p release out of the way, let's roll with the 700p MR.
  3. #43

It's impossible to start any thread about the MR and not see this kind of post.

In yet another attempt to get BACK to topic:

It sure would be nice to see that MR before the end of the month!
  5. #45
I have to say, I believe this MR will come before the 28th and make our 700p the same as a 755--which will be much better than our current 700p. I think we will all be pleasantly surprised. I can't believe I'm saying this. Why do I punish myself?

Or, to put it another way, 76,800 viewable pixels on the BB screen vs. 102,400 on the Treo. This means that in a single "screen shot", you can see 33% more of a web page on the Treo. If you spend a lot of time using the device on the internet, this makes a big difference. If you don't, it won't.

My 700p doesn't crash that much. I know some people see crashes ever day. I'm lucky (or unlucky is more like it) if I get one ever other week. I've installed a few apps that caused it to crash more, but I ditched them. As I've said before, I think people who get ALOT of crashes are people who install and uninstall lots of stuff. Since really learning what the Treo is all about, I'm very careful what I install and I run a good uninstaller.

What I was saying, not trying to say, what the Berry I played with over at Verizon on Sat wasn't nearly as nice to use as my Treo 700p. I didn't like the feel of it and it just acted like a highend cell phone. I'm not the only one who has this opinion of this smartphone.

    With my Treo, I can:

    - SSH into my RedHat Enterprise Linux server and reset my mail server while i'm sitting in my hottub at home, if needed.
    - I can create a custom form in Pendragon forms and install it on my Treo and collect data, keep time records, or what ever.
    - I can transfer a bunch of design data over to the SD card in my treo because I can't find the thumb drive that's probably lost in my desk somewhere,
    - I can tie all of my employees google calendars into my treo and sync them all OTA.

Maybe you can do all of these things with the Berry, I don't know.

I don't think $39 is that big of a deal for Chatter. Don't you have to subscribe to Blackberry's service to get push email?

My 700p crashes constantly. When I receive calls, when I read emails, hell, even when just sitting idly on my desk. I've tried everything from new handsets, to hard resets, followed by trial installations of software. Nothing helps. I've even experienced lock-ups and crashes with virgin devices.

Well, obviously Pendragon doesn't support Blackberry but, there are other alternatives available.

Everything else is easy to do on Blackberry.

You spend five minutes with a device at some retail store and you feel as though you know enough about it to comment on what it can and can't do? Sorry sir, I wouldn't qualify your "experience" with the Blackberry as anything other than insignificant. Honestly, why even give your opinion at all when it is so mis-informed? You honestly think I'd be here spouting off about what the Treo can and can't do after spending a few minutes with it at the Sprint corporate store? Really, of what benefit is that to anyone?

Now, to get back on topic, I too, am anxiously anticipating the MR. Since I'm stuck with this device, I can only hope the MR will be the remedy my unit is in dire need of.

Lets see BB data is $39 a month.. I get data on my treo for $10 a month... Big turn off to spend $30 more a month or $360 more a year for push email that with a one time $40 fee for chatter mail get you that saving $360 a year which is almost a monthly payment on my car lease...

Well, now you're comparing carrier prices. That's not really relevant, is it?

I mean, on Cingular, the BB personal is $10 cheaper than the Unlimited PDA Connect that you need on a Treo....

I guess I could start adding up the revenue loss that's a direct result of me having to do business with faulty hardware... Should we factor that into the equation as well?

My 700P crashes about once every other week, except when I run across something (like a newly made font in Fontsmoother) that crashes it. Usually it happens when I do something that I know I shouldn't do, like try and go back to an earlier page on Blazer when it's loading multiple images. Either you are incredibly unlucky getting not just one but multiple handsets that have bad hardware, or you are running something that I don't have....and I've got over 30 apps. Any chance you tried to load all your old software onto the device? While not perfect, the 700P is just fine, even without the new ROM. Bluetooth works well enough for me, minimal lag...only problem is the skipping of Ptunes, which I do expect will be fixed before the month is out. Sometimes it appears people don't recognize the limitations of the OS...there's only so much it can do at once. Take it or leave it.

The subject of this thread is "700P ROM Update May be Available Anyday". Please take the irrelevant posts such as Blackberry/Treo bashing somewhere. We have enough of them. Thanks.

No sir.. Point taken... But at most you are down 45seconds to 1min.

I called palm tech support the other day and they made an appointment for me to speak to level 3 tech support since they are in "direct" talks with the people working on the MR. I told the guy my issues and he said nothing he could do until the patch came out, he assured me its in carrier testing and just needs approval and it could be out any day now, he also told me that it is possible that one carrier will release it earlier than another, as we see the verizon website has some mention they might get it first...

He did offer one bit of advice for BT pairing issues. He told me before I plug my phone in to charge turn the BT off then turn it back on when you unplug the phone. He told me that for some odd reason this prevents pairing information from being lost... I have yet to try it but I will.

Ok lets stop hijacking this thread (guilty) I suggest we move this discussion to this thread http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...d.php?t=142221
Thread title is "Replace 700p with...?"
    Treoing & Loving it

If I can remember what this thread is about, I don't think they will release the MR before the 28th. I've never seen them release these early. I don't have that much trouble, anyway. The only rest I get is after doing a backup w/backup buddy. An occaisional one in blazer. I have the p tunes skipping, and the phone screen lags like */)"". The phone speed is the worst part of the os problem. But I wouldn't trade it for the world.

I'm definitely interested in what the MR can do for me. I have very little in the way of problems on my one-year-old 700p. It is truly far better than the POS 650 I had. I am mostly interested in improved BT function. Hope it works!

Nope, Chatter provides true push email from any IMAP email server. If you don't have one currently, they are very cheap to setup especially if you have a broadband interent connection. You can download an extremely user friendly version of Linux for non-linux users here:

    www.contribs.org

Setup takes about 30min and requires no linux experience. The software is 100% free. You can register your email domain name here: www.easydns.com for $35/yr.

So basically with an old P4 computer and a $35/yr subscription, you have your own IMAP server. There are also several very cheap services out there if you don't want your own server. I have my own and love it... Comes with free realtime av software and a enterprise level spam filter.

You are right, I didn't spend alot of time with the Berry, but I'm far from a Novice at hand helds. I've been using them extensively in my job collecting field data since the early 90s. The Berrys that Verizon currently carry are nothing buy "blinged" up cell phones.
