I am transferring previous thread to here to get more Tmobile user feedback:
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    Hi all,

I am new here and would like to thank y'all in advance for any help you could give me. Here's my situation:

I purchased an Unlocked Cingular Treo 650 from ebay. Seller told me he got the unlock code directly from Cingular. It is able to access my Tmobile SIM, and I am able to make calls and text messaging on the Tmobile network.

However, I am unable to send/receive MMS or picture messages, nor am I able to access the internet. I have called the TMobile tech support several times - and each time would go thru the settings / configuration for MMS / Internet.... all to no avail. I keep getting a "Connect Error". ("An error occurred opening the network connection").

    My Network settings:
    -Connection = GPRS
    -Username = a
    -Password = Assigned
    -APN = internet2.voicestream.com
    -IP Address = Automatic
    -Query DNS = checked
    -Fallback = None

    Firmware: 01.51
    Software: Treo650-1b.17-CNG

Tmobile Tech guys think the phone is not "completely" unlocked...is there such a thing as "partial" unlock???

Does the software need to be changed from CNG?

    Please help!

Have you signed up for Unlimited Internet or TZones (or whatever it's called now)?

Treo 650's will have FULL functionality on T-Mobile's network. I just ditched my 650 in favor of a brand new unbranded/unlocked Treo 680!

Here is what you need... T-MobileWeb, often confused for the $5.99 TZones. You set the following proxy settings in Blazer web browser:

    Proxy Server: 216.155.165.050
    Port:8080

You can input these settings into some other Palm OS applications: Directory Assist (DA), and Quickipedia... Verichat (if you still have that running =D, will leach off Blazer's proxy settings) Unfortunatly Google Maps will not function if you need proxy. T-Mobile turns off the proxy a lot, thus requiring it to be enabled, but if they leave all ports open (often) it will function. Better safer then sorry tho.

Ok more... leaving the Cingular ROM on is just fine. I had it on mine for its entire lifespan, a year and a half. Except there are a few types of unlock methods. I think your best bet is to find a store to get it unlocked, usually $35-60... most likely on the low end of that. I think that is your best bet!

    Hope all that blabbering helped!

I have the Tmobile Internet plan and have gone thru the Network settings, updated the proxy settings as fishera recommended ... but still am unable to get any network connection. (Also no MMS/ pictures able to send or receive). I went thru the network connections again with Tmobile Tier 3 level support yesterday... no success, again. (Funny thing i noticed - the PDA specialist tier 2 rep. was recommending Port: 9201, while Tier 3 guy reco Port: 8080.)

On the recommendation to get it unlocked at a store - my question would be: does "store unlock" differ from inputting unlock code from Cingular? I am willing to spend that extra $$ if there is really a diff. unlock method which is more complete or effective.

If you've got the Unlimited Internet Plan, there's nothing for you to setup. If you're using a T-Mobile SIM, you'll see 3 pre-installed networks: "T-Mobile Internet", "T-Mobile VPN" and "T-Zones"; simply choose the default "T-Mobile Internet" Network.

Yes those were the 3 preinstalled settings - none of which worked so tech support made me go thru manual settings... up to now no network connection still. and MMS sending / receive also still not working.

I am inclined to try unlock method thru a store - but i am still wondering if there is any difference from those codes that Cingular gave.. or those DIY codes from the internet?

If your t-mobile SIM is working than your TREO is fully unlocked. Your problem is not from a lock/unlock problem, but how your IP connection is being set up.
    Pilot 5K->Palm IIIc->Tungsten T/T2->Treo 650/680 -> Pre+ (1.4.5 & Uberkernel)

First of all, are you absolutely sure that Tmo has set you up with the Unlimited Internet plan? Have you tried to access the internet using that SIM in another phone? Have you tried using the default Tmo network setting with a freshly hard-reset (and empty) Treo?

I am able to access Tmo internet using my SIM on a Tmobile aircard thru my laptop. On the hard-reset - I am not familiar on how to do this. Should I try to do that on my Treo 650? (I do not have access to another Treo).

You should always hard reset a newly acquired second-hand Palm device to make sure that any incompatible software/files have been removed. Follow these directions.

    Bill,
Thanks for the link. Some more questions (sorry if these questions sound dumb)
    - How do I do a back up?
    - After a hard reset, how do I restore the backup data?
    - The page describes hard reset as "All your data will be removed, and formats, preferences and other settings are restored to their factory default settings.".... would this also revert the UNLOCK to a Cingular Locked setting? I do not have the unlock code.

    thanks.

A hard reset shouldn't lock your phone; lots of folks are using unlocked Cingular branded phones, and everyone needs to hard reset at one time or another.

So, you've already been adding data to the phone and want to back it up? Sorry, I had assumed that you just received it.

    1. Performing a Hotsync will backup the phone to the desktop.

    2. After Hotsyncing, rename your desktop /Palm/<username>/Backup directory (to, say, Backup.old), where <username> is some variant of your Hotsync ID.

    3. Perform the hard reset

    4. Hotsync again

This will load your PIM data, but no 3rd party software or extraneous files.

No, that'll reload all the old files, including whichever one(s) that were causing the problem.

Open that folder and double click only those app files that you want to really install.
