My wife has had to have her 700p replaced for abusive damage due to bluetooth operational frustration. I'm really looking forward to the MR for her 700p, but I do want a proper functioning device for myself too (we both have 700p's).

Simply put, my wife was testing the 700p's aeronautical and aerodynamic performance....under duress. Her conclusion was that it did not test well as a frisbee, nor did the Bluetooth capabilities.

Who wants to make a wager that Palm will NEVER release a 700p MR? I mean, now that the 755p is released, WTF do they care about the 700p? I know they put it on their blog and "promised" us, but they also promised us working bluetooth, no lag, wifi, etc.

I can just see them saying in their blog "well, we wanted to release a patch for the 700p and it's all ready to go, but Sprint and/or Verizon won't release it because it doesn't meet their standards/isn't compatible with their network/doesn't fit into their future business strategy/you fill in the blank....blah blah blah blah.

As much as I want the 700p MR to happen, I just don't think it ever will be released...and I am willing to bet a large sum of money on that statement.

And there is NO WAY Palm/Sprint is getting ANOTHER $600 out of me for a 755p.

Moral of the story: Don't be a beta tester for Palm (700p early adopter).

I'm confident that there is going to be a MR, but that's just my intuition....there has to be some consideration of Palm's track record on promises that I keep convincing my self won't happen in this issue. If it does go the way of excuses for no MR release, I'm fairly sure that a ton of business, including mine, is headed to RIM. I'm keeping a watchful eye on the BB Curve. Sounds like the real Treo killer if it comes to Sprint/Verizon on Rev.A EV-DO.

Well, I HOPE you are right, but I don't share the same confidence in Palm. I do agree with you about the BB Curve or just BB's in general. They are becoming (already are?) more and more "consumer" oriented and much more user friendly/intuitive.

I am going to have a seriousl look at the BB 8830 when it comes out, especially if the 700p MR never materializes.

That's the same comment I heard on either the engadget.com of gearlog.com latest podcast (can't remember which one off hand) regarding RIM. The other interesting comment was that it seems that RIM and Palm are trading places from 3 years ago. Back then, Palm owned RIM as RIM was just a glorified pager...funny how you sit still and the competition just passes you right up....hey Palm, are you listening?

Yep - us - You and Me and all the early adopters of the Palm phones.

The 600 was like a beta for the 650. There were a number of threads that discussed that. We, guess what, we didn't learn from our mistakes.... here we are ssaing the 700p was a beta for the 750.

I gues you can look at this two ways. either:
1- We're paying the price for being the first to buy the product
    -or-
    2- we're just suckers

Hey - I still love my Treo -so I'll take #2 please.
As for me, I returned the 700p within a couple of weeks of its release. I didn't see the added value, and the lag in application switching was exasperating, so I happily went back to the 650 rather than endure an indefinite wait for Palm's then-unannounced MR. Even a year ago it was obvious that 700p owners were beta testers for the next iteration of hardware. This time I'll be purchasing, partly due to the lower price and the internal antenna, but mostly because of the wear and tear on my 650.

I see no reason to be surprised by the lack of new features. With Palm, or anything else in life, it's important to recognize the difference between hope and expectation. We can hope that a new release from Palm will be visionary, but we can expect Palm to be Palm.

as is why I am not surprised by the lack of innovation in the 755p and their standardization of the Treo platform.

Completely agree. My 700p has given me very little in the way of problems, and I consider myself a power user.

We'll see what the 700p's MR does for it...
    Palm IIIx>Palm Vx>Palm m515>Tungsten T>Tungsten C>Verizon Treo 650

    Too late.
Treo 755s in good condition available on ebay for $50-$75. No need to pay for insurance or buy a Pre.
