did I read the specs correctly where they state that the battery is smaller than the 700p?
    no ad2p? or ev-do rev A?

I realize I'm ranting here, but I'm really having difficulty stomaching palm anymore.

In my book, hawkins' device is their last chance.
I agree with you. I'm concerned about the battery. The ad2p can be added on with Softick. Besides being newer what would ev-do rev A do for me on a Sprint Treo that rev. 0 can't. I don't know the difference.

Rev A offers simultaneous use of voice and data as well as upload speeds over 300K. Receiving data while on a call would offer heavy business users a really awesome feature. It's gonna be tough not to take a long hard look at the PPC 6800.

Or, just wait for someone on this forum to hack the IM client to work with the 700p!!!

i'm going to buy it. coming from owning a treo 650 for 2+ years, this is a welcome upgrade to my damaged beyond repair phone. and an antenna less phone is what i've been wanting for a long time.

most of the features people are complaining about i don't need.

    i don't need evdo rev A. because i have a computer.
i don't need gps because my car has a GPS in it.
i don't need a long battery life, because most of the time i'm not using my treo, it's plugged into its charger.

i do think that the list of features between the 650 and the 755p isn't great, especially for a 2+ year gap, but it has everything that i need for an average web surfer, phone user, and monster texter. i'm going to enjoy my 755p when i get it next week.

and if you're waiting for the lastest and greatest, you're going to be waiting for ever. because there will always be something coming out that is better than what is out now.

650 owner-----> Makes a lot of sense to upgrade to the 755p

700p owner----> Makes NO sense to upgrade to the 755p (especially with the MP being released soon...IF Palm really ever releases it)

had there not been the announcement (was it an official one?), that palm is coming out with a completely new type of phone where the palm os will rest on a linux platform and also that the device/s will be cheaper that the past treos, i might have remotely thought about considering to buy the 755p (if sold outside sprint).
this autumn will see the launch of a new treo that will hopefully contain a more capable palmOS that will support high speed internet and wifi etc etc.
i am definitely looking forward to that, and my 650 is keeping me good company while i am waiting.

I'm upgrading from my 700p since it won't cost me anything. If I had to pay something then I wouldn't upgrade as it's not enough of an upgrade.

How are you getting it for FREE? You are the second person tonight who is posting that they are getting it for free....

Exactly, this is what it comes down to. I've had a 650 for over two years now so the 755p will be a welcomed upgrade for me. If I had a 700p, I'd just sit tight, get the MR, and wait to see what's coming out next.

Battery life is important to me. Being in the field most of the day, using ChatterEmail for PUSH mail, using HanDBase and DTG throughout the day, and other utilties as needed requires a battery that will last. I use the OEM and charge it whenever I am in the car. A battery with less performance is one that I do not look forward to.

I'm quite happy with my 680. iPhone looks fun but isn't functional enough for me. I would *NOT* put more money into Garnet. Palm needs to wake up, pause the F*ckedeo, and get us a freakin Linux-based Treo. Oh, if Apple would only give us a native SDK, I'd dump Palm and buy me an iPhone. Palm, do you understand you can't screw around any more??? Innovate!!

Exactly. I patiently waited for the iPhone release being a mac fanatic. And was sorely disappointed that its really only i-candy at this point. But I had a 650 that got to the point it would reboot if you looked at it cross-eyed, so I got a 755p. I qualified for the upgrade plan instant $200 rebate plus getting $100 mail-in rebate plus sending my treo back for a hopeful $50 recycle. So not so painful as a silly iPhone would have been. And until they release a native SDK for it, its just no real use to me. I was sad. Then I got my 755p actually working on the Power Vision and I'm a happy camper! The battery might be wearing out slower than my 650, but that could also just be me online all the time playing with my new faster web. hehe I put audio gateway on here like I had on my 650 and everything is peachy. I might invest in an extra battery like I had for my 650. I don't want to make my 755p fatter, so I'll just pick up a normal battery for $14.95 and leave it in my charger for when I might need it.

Alright Perry!!! I've missed seeing your posts since I switched. Glad I didn't have to wait until the 900 to see your beautiful daughter's smiling face again.

Yayyyyyyyyyyy Perry! Please give us your in depth thoughts about the 755.
The value of knowledge is not in its possession, but in its use.

I'm not sure about how in depth this will be. . . . . . it just works and I have had no reset or lag issues. The texturized paint and no antenna are a big plus. Battery life has been fine for me, and I went from a 2400mAh in my 700p to the 755's 1600. It is my most favorite Treo 650 yet!

However, I am still waiting for my Treo 900P (Palm over Linux OS) with multi-tasking. Following are the 3rd party programs I have installed:

    Docs to Go
    Google Maps
    On Demand
Core Player w/ movies on the SD card
    Kinoma Player
    Pocket tunes
    TSMobile (connection to work mainframe)
ereader pro and 32mb dictionary and other reference works
    Pocket Quicken
    diddlebug
    Chess Tiger
    Pocket Checkers
    Diet and Exercise Assistant
    VersaMail
    RealPlayer, songs on card
    fileZ
    EZ Converter (miles to inches . . . .)
    Voice Dial
    Volume Care
    mSafe
    mVoice
    BackupBuddy VFS
    MegaClock
    Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide
    SlovoEd Spanish/English Dictionary
    Tetris
    Silent Threat (Subhunt game)
    Solitare
    Bejeweled
    TextPlus
    TimeReporter 4
    TreoCiel (Weather Program)
Due Yesterday (Student homework program my daughter uses and beams me)

I run a small business and was about ready to go upgrade to the 755 since my 650 is also banged up but really is working well. Would like to get new apps and EVDO speed. I like the SMS and am ok with Biz-connect for push email. Perry or PALM can you comment on these users 755 gripes since these issues will hurt me in my daily business if I experience same stuff--on sprint with good connection in Houston:

--Need SMS just as good if not better than 650 SMS. Sounds like 755 SMS's get deleted for no apparent reason?????

---Can't tolerate 755 resetting all the time--this sounds like it was the service pinging device maybe causing resets on Verizon??. My 650 on Sprint very rarely resets and never in a middle of a call. Also BT works well--volume could be better.

--will change over to our exchange sync but can't have it pinging every second for email draining my battery. Understand biz-connect is not supported any more (push email from PC--ok since I can use versamail active exchange sync)

--650 SD card is not compatable but I understand you can get converted over to new MINISD--need data on card so sounds like not a big deal.

Must be able to convert my contacts, memo's, calender, tasks etc to 755. I see you must change backup to old backup--assume manual explains this section. I would jump off a bridge if I lost all my Palm data but will back it up on PC for sure.

Any comments to relieve above concerns about 755 would be appreciated.

P.S. I saw the Iphone--i candy is best description and no way would this work for me. Do you know you must send the phone back to get battery changed. Now Palm OS on the iphone would be cool

    Can't comment fully on all questions . . . .

    My 755 has never reset.

You can copy the contents of your SD card to your computer and then back to the miniSD for the 755. Only copy data, programs should be re-installed fresh to the device or the SD card.

I use text messaging on a limited basis and have not lost messages.

Contact, memos, tasks and calendar will transfer or can be copied, just follow the install instructions. . . . (Backups, of course are life savers -- just in case your PC burps during the process. . . .)

They must have improved the 755's use of power . . . . I would say the the stock 1600mAh in the 755P lasts at least as long as a stock 1800mAh did in the 700P. (However, on 18 hour away from the office days -- I do always carry a spare.)

I always do a clean install to transfer to a new device:

    Not all, but:

I've had my 755 nearly two months and had 5 resets now, all after installing tested apps.

I use Active Sync Exchange with Versamail. My office phone is always forwarded to my cell phone. At the end of the day, around 7:00pm, I have around 60% battery left.

i bought a Transcend 4GB miniSD and simply copied the contents from my 4GB SD card.

I use text messaging to communicate with my staff. I have never lost any text messages. Although, I have read a couple of people here that have.
