Not to get everyone riled up but...

Sprint launches the new Treo 755p next Monday 5/14. Yes I know before we get our update for the 700p. (News via Gizmodo website)

I hope anyone who purchases the 755p (not I though) has a Treo more like the 650 but with EVDO than the 700p issues. If not, we're getting our fix before they do.

Here's hoping the end of brings a fully functioning 700p with a bluetooth that doesn't drop, no random resets, and decrease in lag time.

I have to thank the contributors to the thread on speeding up the 700p. Deleting those VersaMail related MM files does speed up the Treo and the IR update may as well too.

I'm trying to install Removeit! and see if I can delete VersaMail to speed up further.

    Thanks all.

F Palm. I am getting the 8830 when it releases. I don't even care to wait for the update. Palm is such a joke nowadays. Such a great device conceptually, but implementation is just poor.

Where did you get the info on the 5/14 release? I talked to a Sprint rep today regarding the cost of updating from the 700p, and she indicated that the release would be mid-June to end of June. I had seen a post in one of the other threads that had the 5/14 release date so I questioned her, but she claimed the only info she had was the June release info. I have certainly not ruled out the possibility (likelihood) that she was clueless, so would like to confirm that date. Thanks.

I wish we could remove versa mail, I hope the MR update takes it off. But as far as I know its in the ROM and comes back with a rest. I use obfuscate to hide it along with the annoying other sprint apps like get good or get ect.

I dont see why anyone would even buy that stupid thing yet after all we've been through with the 700p. I can tell you I sure as heck wont, and even if I did get it for $300 I still wouldn't buy it.

Cause number one, unless it has something worth spending that type of money on, forget it. If it is only faster data speeds and NO antenna, forget it. That's NOT worth $300, and especially $500 or what not for new people.

Its like buying a new car model just cause they took the spoiler off and gave it 5 extra HP. So freaking what.

Now give me a REAL good reason to buy it, and I will. Not to mention i'd have to buy miniSD for the stupid thing when I have my stuff already on a SD. Sure it wont cost much money, but I still have to SPEND money that I wouldn't have had to, if it had SD. I'd already have my card.

I mean I dont see who would seriously buy it after the ROM fiasco we have had. People will probably get all giddy, go buy it, sell their 700p and then find out its just as much of a piece of crap as the 700p is (this is without the ROM update, and I am hypothesizing it will make it much better).

So then you'll be stuck with another piece of crap, then you'll wish you had your old 700p back with the new ROM, but you sold it on ebay and dont have it, so now you're waiting for another year before they will get a ROM update out for the 755p.

Then it will be.... I WANT MY 755p ROM UPDATE NOW thread we will all be seeing.

I mean maybe someone can really justify spending money on it, but I cant. Not even just for the speed, and not one bit for no antenna. Would it be nice? Yeah, but I dont care now about the antenna. I even carry it in my pocket and it doesn't bother me. What bothers me, is putting it in my pocket because I am waiting on the white screen to go away while loading blazer, and I dont want to sit there with it in my hands while it thinks for one minute about getting past that white screen.

More memory...sweet. Better camera...sweet. Better bluetooth sweet. Wi-Fi... sweet!

Just faster speeds and no antenna... Not so sweet.

i'd get more use out of spending that $300 on beer and women than I would with that new phone

Has it been officially confirmed for 5/14? Any word on SERO availability? It should make a nice upgrade from my 650. I'd wait for a 6800, but that could be until September and that's just too long.

Palm will do me a favor if they delay the 755p. Maybe they should release it after the update! I like the Palm OS and at this point in time do not want a window's mobile device. I do plan to get the 755. Sprint has given me a service credit of 150. Hopefully Palm will give us a good discount. More than the 75-150 they usually offer. Time will tell.

Sounds like music to my ears... probably by 5/20 they will do insurance replacements on 650s/700s with 750s, so it is time for an upgrade

Sprint is fantastic, and in some regards, mildly retarded. I have 3-4 friends who got upgrades from 650s->700s through "Total Equipment Protection" Plans... and since the 750 is REPLACING the 700, and not just another handset... I expect things to go smooth :>

Would I pay for the upgrade? Hell no
Just waiting for the day my Pre has contacts grouping, and a "speed dial" for text messaging

According to this thread it's already at Best Buy for sale.

The update is going to fix a lot of things I bet, if what happened with the 650 is any indication. I see no need to upgrade my perfectly good 700, particuarly since I can use my 8gb SDHC card and I'd be limited to 4gb on the mini-SD format, plus I'd have to purchase a new card. I just bought the $20 flush antenna and it works fine. Not to mention from what I've read the 755 doesn't even have EV-DO rev.A anyway. It's a form-factor upgrade, and that's about it. Say one thing about Palm, they consistently release the most unchanged, incremental upgrades of any company I've seen. Talk about milking every penny!

Now I will jump after I see what happens in October when the Linux-based phone comes out. If it's solid, will support Garnet apps, and allows everything Linux does, it will be an awesome piece of gear.

This could just be the demo and the display.

It doesn't mean they are selling it yet.

I'm hoping with the release of the 8830 and iPhone that many of the people promising to get these items will disappear along with their unhelpful bashing from the Treo forums.
It may make people who want real answers for upcoming phones, etc. Be able to find those answers without wading through the dung slinging.

Well stated sasq. I've gotten excellent help reading this forum for many years now. But, I'm afraid to many of our friends contributing to this group have far too much time on their hands. I started with a 600, now own and love my 650, and look forward to a possible upgrade to the 755p, once the "Real" specs are released.

I agree to an extent. If someone comes in troll with a post like, "Palm sucks now, the Curve will kill it hurr!" then that kind of thing doesn't belong here. If someone wants to make a valid argument about a Treo competitor's advantages, no harm there. I've had a Treo 300, 600, and 650. I didn't have the money to spend on a 700p when it came out, or else I would have gotten one. Now that we're on the eve of the 755p's release, I'm set to pull the trigger. But the 6800 has me interested. While some things are up in the air about both devices, we know for sure the 6800 has some features the 755p doesn't, i.e. Wifi, BT 2.0, 2mp camera with flash, dual core CPU to aid battery life. Aside from a few tweaks, the 755p will likely just be a 700p in a smaller form factor. If the 6800 was on schedule and would be released along side of the 755p, I'd probably jump ship. However with the talk of it being pushed back to September, I'm not going to wait that long and I'll probably just get the 755p.

I spoke with my corporate rep last week and he stated that the date is 5/14. I will just have to wait and see. I for one will probably wait for the 700p MR and then make up my mind (although I have several 650 users who are wanting to upgrade to something, so maybe I will and roll mine down to someone else)

It looks like the TreoCentral review of the upcoming 755p indicates Palm fixed the issues. It gives me hope that the upcoming 700p Maintenance Release at the end of the month will get it right too and fix the issues.

I'm a gadget guy but don't have the in depth tech knowledge like a lot of people on these boards (I don't work in IT, just a super fan and Power User enough to be dangerous).

Is it possible there could be more issues or not the same experience with the MR of the ROM for the 700p versus a new device the 755p with the built in OS fixed from the start.

I'll stick with the 700p and keep my fingers crossed the MR will fix the issues and make it a great phone (it's on the cusp of greatness now IMHO).

It is a shame to hear that Palm chose to add more to the ROM. The push email seems like a good feature, but the other stuff is garbage.

Palm I don't care if you add stuff to the device, but please give us the choice of deleting it if Power Users don't want it. I resent having stuff like, Software, Get BC, My Treo, and Email (VersaMail) locked into the ROM on my Treo and being unable to delete it.

I think you could load it on the Treo but not lock it in ROM and include it on the CD so if someone does a hard reset and wants to reload it they can, but not require it. I guess the additional memory of the device makes it a non issue but I don't like the thought of having extra apps I don't want that are not core to the Palm OS on my Treo and having to hide them with Invisible (pgm).

Palm I don't mean to be negative, like many said before, I'm vocal because I care, I've been using the Palm OS consistently for the past 10 years on every device I've had since 1997.

I hope the MR end of May is released live then, and not carrier dependent. Paul and Steve please be honest with us, if there is another contingent factor let us know now, I don't really want to read all the flames the week of May 28th because people feel misled or let down.

My statement was incomplete, thanks for filling in what I left out. My response was more to the "screw Palm, they suck, I'm getting a Blackberry statements"

I am certainly disappointed that the 755p doesn't include the additional features I would like ( Wi-Fi, mainly, maybe improved camera ), but in a way, its nice, because I can save money for another 6 months or so, at least. :-)

I was already planning to stick with my 700p until I move to a non-Palm device, and after reading the review I don't think I'll be missing anything. MiniSD, 2.5mm headphone jack, same crappy camera, smaller battery, etc., etc., etc.

Since they shrunk down the battery and memory card slot, couldn't they at least give us a 3.5mm headphone jack?

I think I've purchased my last Treo.
