I need help. I usually lurk and search (for which I am grateful to all of the knowledgable people here) , but I can't find anything like it. Here's my problem.

When I perform a hotsync, it stops when it gets to Contacts. All of my contacts are still on my 700p, but they all disappeared from Outlook. I sync with my work and home computer. This first happened at work, but my home computer still performed the sync properly. Tonight, my home computer lost all the contacts. I thinik it is an issue with Outlook, because I was able to sync with Palm Desktop.

For the time being, I can set contacts to do nothing, but I need my contacts back on my work computer. Anybody have any ideas?

do a search for dbscan to run on your phone.
I had this problem. I soft reset, then deleted the contacts.db file from my device and had the desktop overide the handheld. It worked.

Thanks for the replies. I have tried the dbscan and there were no files to delete. The problem with deleting the contacts db from my phone is that is the only place my contacts are. All of my contacts in Outlook are gone (on both computers now). When I try to have the handheld overwrite desktop, the hotsync stops and there is no log to look at for errors.

Can you copy your Contacts database to your card? If you do regular backups with a backup program, your Contacts are saved there, too.

Hold tight, Dave. There's a new version of dbScan - almost finished with beta testing - that eliminates the corruption of the Contacts db BLOB area. It'll be released for general use in a few days and I'll post the new version in all my dbScan references on TC; I'll be surprised if it doesn't take care of your problem.

That would be awesome Bill, looking forward to the new dbscan.

I do use Backupman, and I have done a hard reset and restored the contacts from my card, but I still can't sync my contacts to Outlook.

I had this exact problem last night. I tried several times to sync but it would just stop at contacts or calendar. It would eventually "hang" so to speak. I just made sure I did a backup with my backup app, then did a hard reset, and then restored using my backup program. Fortunately for me, it worked. Hope this helps.

In case this may help somebody else in the future...
So I was looking for an email in my deleted items folder and guess what I found... all my contacts. Very strange. Somehow hotsync deleted all of my contacts, then when I tried to have my handheld overwrite desktop, hotsync would shut down in the middle. I permanently deleted all of the items other than contacts in my deleted items folder and sorted by size. There were a few that were about 25kb and had attachments, but I couldn't figure out what the attachment was. This seemed like the problem, so I permanently deleted those, and moved the rest of the contacts back into contacts. Hotsync works now and all is happy.
