I have a 650 and have been using a SanDisk Ultra II 2.0 GB card for some time. Everything has worked fine.

Suddenly, a few days ago, with no changes made to any setting, etc., I noticed that when the unit was on it would sometimes spontaneously switch to a screen showing the SD card icon at top right. I'd have to hit a button to return it to whichever screen had been on previously. It would later again jump to the screen showing the SD card icon.

Then, since about two days ago, when I hit the red on-off button to turn the Treo on, there is a 2-3 second delay before the screen lights up.

(To clarify, when I say "turn on", I don't mean turning on the radio but, rather, just bring up the Treo.)

If I remove the SD card, the on-off button brings the phone up instantly as it always has.

Again, no changes made to any settings. No change in programs loaded. No change in amount of free memory. Soft reset had no effect.

    Would appreciate any ideas.

    Thanks.

    I'd try the following:
    1. Copy the card contents to the desktop
    2. Reformat the card
    3. Insert the now empty card back into the 650: does it turn on instantly now?
    4. Copy the original contents back to the card and insert the card again: what's the response now?

Bill - thanks for the suggestion. Tried it but it didn't solve the problem.

I backed up the data on the card. Reformatted the card.

Before reinserting the card, I tried and confirmed that the Treo turned on immediately.

Then inserted the reformatted card - with no data on it yet - and the FIRST time I turned on the Treo it turned on almost, but not quite as "instantly" as it does with no card inserted. However, on all subsequent attempts to turn the Treo on, there was the several second lag.

I then removed the card, reconfirmed the quick on-off, reinserted the card and got the same outcome: pretty quick turn-on first time; several second lag thereafter.

I didn't propose a solution; I proposed an experiment. From your results, I'd say that there's either a problem with the card, or a problem with an app or file on your Treo. Next, I'd try the following:
    1. Hotsync to backup the Treo
    2. Rename your desktop /Palm/<username>/Backup directory to, say, Backup.old
    3. Hard reset the Treo
    4. Hotsync

That'll load your PIM data, but no 3rd party software.

How does the empty Treo respond with the empty card? Full card?

Just to mention something I've seen like this.. Are you using PXAClocker? I've seen hose up turning the Treo on. Just a thought.

    Again, thanks for the suggestions.

    I'm not using PXAClocker.

Bill, I'll try the hard reset tonight.
