I have a few problems with my Treo I'd like to discuss with Palm (right now I can't answer calls as the speaker just echoes my voice but I can make calls without a problem, I have a decent amount of dust accumulating under the middle of my screen, and poor speakerphone sound quality/variances), but I don't see a # to call about this.

The Palm website has be trying to call Cingular, but that seems odd since I have the unlocked version and I would think that Cingular would not have anything to do with this.

Is there a # for me to call Palm directly?

I have some dust under my screen as well. First I though it was under the screen protector (in the middle?) but when I removed it it was clear that the dust is under the screen itself.

DurtyD, did you get in touch with Palm about your issues? What was their response?

^ I haven't yet called Palm about my problems. The main problem was solved with a soft reset, but I am still not happy with the dust and speakerphone volume issues.

On my phone, most of the dust under the screen has accumulated right in the middle, and goes from top to bottom. Maybe it gets in through the earpiece somehow?

And I don't think there's any way for me to get to that part of the phone to truly clean it.

You might want to return it for replacement. Call the number in post #2.

I just got off the phone w/ Palm (using the # above), and they will be sending me a replacement unit.

I would of thought the problems (poor sound, seems to go in and out, not loud enough) I had with the speakerphone would of done the trick, but in the end it was the dust issue that had Palm sending me a replacement. I do think that is a 'real' issue, as on my phone it is accumulating in the center of it from the top to the bottom. I've only had it for 3 months, and can see this getting much worse.

I do have to spend $25 to pay for the shipping of the phone which does seem a bit tacky, but if I get the replacement and it doesn't have those issues, I'll be happy.

    We'll see.......

Thanks to frantid for the #, and Bill for again suggesting I use it. I'll admit, I kind of got lazy about it.

Once I get the new one, I'll be sure to let you guys know if it seems to be any better.

My dust pattern is exactly as you described. However, I've had the phone for close to 5 months. I think I would like to exchange it as well. Can you post your experience with the replacement? Thanks.

^vladchuck - call that # listed above in the thread (think it's just the regular Palm support #).

You'll end up talking to a representative, and at that point you can explain the problem you are having. Make sure you bring up that it's still relatively new, and you are concerned with it continuing to get worse and eventually causing problems with the screen along with the phone.

In my case, I really didn't have to do any major explanation or going overboard in my story. The CSR on the other end was able to determine early on this is a potential problem, and suggested the return.

The entire process took 55 minutes, so be prepared for a long call. (But most of the time was in processing the return information).

So, did you get your replacement yet? How is it? I'm still sitting on the fence, afraid that the replacement will also be somehow defective. By the way, are you getting a brand new or refurbished unit?

Still haven't received my replacement yet. I called on Monday (4/30) evening, and was told that it would take 2-3 days shipping through DHL. Figure if they don't process things until the next day (5/1), I should of had it by worst case scenario on Monday.

I've read another story where it took somebody 2 weeks to get their replacement. I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens. Nothing like paying $25 for supposed express service......

While a brand new unit would be nice, I am expecting to receive a refurb.

Once I have it, I'll post what I got (and when).

I had a treo 680 with a useless low volume on the speakerphone. I called for a replacement. It took them a week to "locate" the item and two more days to "process" it. It took ten days from the day I requested I replacement to get it in my hands.
I almost feel like they are trying to get over the 30 days from purchase date so that they get rid of the hot potato.
Sad thing is that the replacement's speakerphone is as low and as useless as the original and I don't know what to do: I've heard some of the 680s and they are loud and clear, why mine is so crappy?

^vinpao - in my case I'm past the 30 days, but still within the 1 year warranty replacement.....but it still makes sense that I still haven't received my replacement yet. Where in the heck are these things shipping from???

You may want to check out a trial of the volume booster app. I tried it on mine, and I didn't see much of an improvement. You never know, it may work better on yours.

The speakerphone on mine is pretty bad too - besides it being low (where I have to put it close to my ear to hear sometimes), but the volume can modulate up and down too. I hope my replacement fixes this problem.

My speakerphone level is pretty good. However, the dust problem is getting worse by the day. But I'm still afraid that the replacement, if I ever receive it, will have some other ailment - crappy speakerphone, for example. Had it not been for so much software I invested in over the years I would try the Dash. I have always been disappointed in Treo as a phone (although it's a great PDA) starting with 650 and now this dust business...

Have you tried one of the volume boosting programs, like VolumeCare or the volume boosting option within Lightwav 2? I use the Lightwav 2 volume boosting and it made my speaker much louder.

I finally received the replacement phone this past Friday, and as expected, it is a refurbished unit. That doesn't bother me, as long as it works as it should and I don't get dust accumulating under the screen again.

I haven't had much of a chance to check and see if the speakerphone volume is any better, but it seems like that's just a shortcoming of the device (at least to me - others seem to be OK with the volume level).

^ChristieC - I did try Volume Care, and it really didn't sound like it made any difference with my phone. I'll try it again if I run into the same problems.
