Sure I would rather wait longer to have it fixed right but I thought I already had. I was thinking if this thing was moved again it would either be late April or first week of May. I was aghast when I read May 28th and find myself not trusting that date by a far stretch.

Previously announced target dates were combined with phrases such as, "pending carrier approval", prior to those dates being missed. Combining, "our best estimate", with the week of May 28th (the very end of May) makes me immediately think June.

They just keep re-packaging the same old release date story. This time they wrapped it with a vague technical explanation of what is being changed. What is the saying about mixing in some truth? It is essentially the same story with a little new packaging to hope know one notices.

It would be naieve for anyone to not at least suspect what I am saying and believe they will have the update before June.

Below is the reaction letter that I just sent to Steve.

    Steve,

I just read your post. Given the history of dates being pushed back and our having repeatedly been asked to wait longer, I am both disappointed and skeptical reading the words, "our best estimate of customer release will be the week of May 28th". I can't help but think that, "best estimate", in the context of May 28th is a safety net should the wait go into June or further. That will be after the one year warranty for a good deal of us and push the release back into late 2Q/early 3Q.

    I feel like I am back in the PPR again. . . .. that week of May 28th release phrase sure has a familiar ring to it . . . . . . anyone given any thought to that the 700P ROM update is just the 755 ROM? . . (or a version thereof). . . . . . . . . . . maybe that is why we have to wait until 2 weeks after the 755's supposed release. . . . .

    Well, I went out on a limb 14 months ago for a May 28th release date. . . . . the word "estimate" be damned. . . .

    I BELIEVE IN MAY 28th !!

I think he is being conservative, knowing what a jovial bunch we are. . . .

I hope it is the 755p ROM! It might as well be since the 755p seems to be touting the same hardware!

Thats what I was asking on the first page... Or is the 755 rom just the same ROM that the 700 has now and they will have to update after the fixes are in order.. From the news I have read the 700p and 755 are identical internally. It makes no sense that we would have to wait a few weeks after the 755 unless the 755 ships with the sam ROM as the 700p since in theory if it is in carrier testing the new ROM on either platform and both run the same internals then the updated ROM should of been approved long before the 755 launch date meaning that the ROM update for the 700p technically should be available before the official launch of the 755..

My guess is the 755 is running the same ROM our current 700's have and will need to be updated..

I hate to be pessimistic, and hopefully it'll be out that week, but that really isn't a guarantee of anything.
AGREED....if you guys honestly believe that the MR will be released on May 28, you are on crack cocaine!!!

Let's start a poll and start guessing what day/week the MR will actually be released. I'll take June 13.

Where are you guys reading that the 700p and 755p are identical in hardware? Right off the bat it has an internal attenna which means at the very least wouldn't they have to rearrange some stuff internally to free up space? I would also think the new attenna involving having a different radio = different drivers = different ROM.

I can't believe any of you are getting the following:

    If First Quarter of 2007 = 17 April 2007 then 28 May 2007 = 755p ROM in a 700?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?

And Perry, you are not allowed to pick May 28th. You are still committed to you previous prediction of the first week of March several threads ago! So leave your, "I Believe", junk back in March which was just as off as a 755p ROM.

The only lag I experience is with text messaging and that is minimal. I stopped having BT issues when I stopped turning off the BT. My other problems pretty much went away when I started doing soft resets once a day. My Treo works as advertised and I would still recommend it.

I'm having deja vue too. This time last year while waiting for the release of the 700P, many of us were waiting on a major 650 FW update (it even had a code name) that turned out to be vaporware. Many speculated it was the 700P ROM.
Visor Deluxe->Visor Edge (Upgraded for $100.00 just by giving them the Serial # of my Visor Deluxe plus I got to keep the Deluxe. Those were the days!)-> Palm M-505->M-515->Tungsten T->Zire 72->Treo 650->->Treo 700P->Treo 755P. Plus various replacements. 8130 Pearl....Sorry

At this point my expectations from PALM = 0

This talk about a 755 Rom.. and additional software.. don't kid yourself..

They will prob. release an unnoticeable 'Update' just to say they did.

I also stopped recommending Palm years ago. There was a time ... (T3) when I swore by Palm. Back when Dell decided to go with Pocket PC, I was recommending Palm to the high ups there.

Don't mean to be negative.. but.. See the guy using the shoe as a phone..
Well...that's how I feel when it reboots...

If the 700p update is indeed the 755's ROM as suggested above then we are being set for another royal screw...we all know how thorough the "testing" of new Treo ROM's has been, I for one don't want the 755 ROM as my MR.
    Have a great one...Doc D.

Total Bull Cr@p!! Palm released a patch for the 700wx SMS issues in less then a year... much less then a year. So Palm's line of we could do it for the 680 because it didn't touch the radio is ridiculous. Besides, they had 2 firmware updates for 650 before it was replaced by the 700p. I have trouble believing this is little more then a combination of old patches, and the 680/755 BT stack.

Palm has everyone working on the new OS and new phones, and probably has 1 intern trying to fix the 700p :-)

I can see palm's update bricking a bunch of phones, and then not doing anything about it because they are out of warranty.
    Visor --> Visor Platinum --> Treo 300 --> Treo 600 --> Treo 650 --> Treo 700p --> Treo 755p --> Treo 800w --> Palm Pre

As a 700wx owner as well as a 750 owner (unlocked European import from mobileplanet.com, none of this $%@$%@# Cingular-branded **** for me) I'm a little miffed but maybe not as much as you 700p guys.

-- threaded SMS. Why did I have to install the hack (thanks codyppc and others on TC) to get this on my 700wx and it is pre-installed on my 750?

-- A2DP. I will have to install Hannip's hack on my 700wx. Howcumizat?

-- Voice Command over Bluetooth? Yeah. Works on the 750.

I think the simple answer is that Palm launches these little products (700p and 700wx -- let's not talk about how the 700w buyers got screwed) and quickly orphans them.

At least you 700p people were loud enough and obnoxious enough to get some action out of Palm. Late, not here yet, coming maybe real soon now, but at least you got them to move off their corporate B-hinds.

This rant is courtesy of someone who would really like to own a Palm-based Treo again but ain't buying a 700p for obvious reasons and ain't buying a 755p until it's been out a year or so, for obvious reasons.

I pick June 22 for a minimal update at best. June 23 is my wedding day so that means if it comes on the 22nd I cant install it until the week after.

Heres the reason, if I install it and its whack then Ill be hosed on my honeymoon. I promised my fiance' to NOT bring my laptop while we are away so I wont be connected.

Palm has a history of releasing updates on Fridays so thats another reason.

So bottom line I wont chance it to install it that Friday because I cant risk being hosed while Im on my honeymoon. I dont want to be pissed off if Im down due to an update.

So June 22nd is what date Ive got.
ONE can be spelled as NEO.

I agree. If akula's contributions to the forum are "well get out then, there's the door," I'd personally rather read fewer of such informative posts.

As for the MR being released after the 755p, I'm thinking Palm is betting on many of the 700p users giving up and getting a 755. Sorry Palm, I'm not going to reward you for your lack of customer care over the last year - May 28 is the one year anniversary of my paying full retail for the 700p since I was still under contract with Sprint. I won't make that mistake again.

Of course, since that date is just an estimate, the maintenance release could come out sooner.

Don't hold your breath for May 28. That happens to be Memorial day. I would love to believe that there will be an army of programmers working 24/7 that weekend until the update is 110% finished and posted to palm.com. Most of the USA will on vacation that weekend and I highly doubt and VIP's will be around to sign off on its release until at least the 29th and probably later than that.

I am not happy with how long this took but at least they are taking a comprehensive approach to fixing this once, and correctly. Palm may as well take the extra 4 weeks and make it an even Q2 07 release. I won't be installing it until then as I would like to see if any new problems pop up.
