My Treo works and I still hate it. So there...
You may be right; I may be crazy. But, the Treo may be just the device I've been looking for.

no...i am sure many of you who have problems with your treos have a hard time believing others have treos that actually work.

Another dumb question, but when it happens how would one download the MR? Will this be like a *2 PRL update thing or would you actually need to download something from the Palm site?
  6. #206
You can't install a MR over-the-air since it wipes out, then restores, everything on your phone. If it ever arrives, it will be a file you download to your computer and install via HotSync.

Therefore, it will be necessary for Vista users to install XP in order to patch. Sigh....

How sad.....seriously. I mean not only has Palm pretty much left us Mac users in the dust (hotsync hasn't been updated in forever, there isn't even a universal version of it, not to mention that syncing with Apple programs doesn't work properly) but now it seems they're doing the same to Windows users via Vista?

A+ for supporting your product palm, really.

This is nothing new for Palm. As of TODAY, Palm only "officially" supports the Home & Professional flavors of Windows XP. No Vista (in any incarnation), no XP MCE, No Server '03 etc etc. I am not even going to count OSes that are EOL or on life support from MS such as Win 98/Me, Win 2k etc.

I personally see the lack of 100% Palm Desktop/Hostync compatibility within Vista as the LARGEST issue facing Palm at the moment...even greater than the 700p's ROM update status.

I never had the occasion to test a Windows XP MCE machine with Palm Desktop but I do know that at least one person I work with got rid of their Palm E2 because the new Dell laptop they bought last year was only offered with XP MCE as the default choice...and they didn't fancy paying $100 more for XP Pro just to have guaranteed Palm Hotsync & Desktop compatibility. So they chucked the E2 and got a Blackberry.

Also, I recall back when the m500/505 got the OS 4.1 update. It was released in June 2002, so XP had been on the market for nearly a year at that time. Yet I had to hunt down an older Win 98 machine just to get the ROM updater to uncompress and execute properly. And look! Palm never did update it to include XP compatibility!

To have worked alongside Microsoft for so long to ready the 700w/wx, it's simply inexcusable that Palm have dragged their feet so long on this one.

My prediction? The 755p WILL include a Vista-compliant version of Palm Desktop on the bundled CD. Palm will wait another few months to release it for download to the general public. And then they will use the XP---> transition to cut off support for all legacy Palm PDAs and Treos (say, anything older than the T5/Treo 650 of 2004). Saying that the Vista-compliant Palm Desktop is not compatible with non-NVFS Palm devices makes for an easy way to put nearly a decade's worth of products (and users) out to pasture. I'd be willing to PAY $10-$20 for a Vista-compliant Hotsync/Desktop package if it was well supported and rock solid. But Palm's not even offering us that option! And what will happen to LifeDrive & T5 owners in regards to drive mode and drag'n drop installation?

Please note that all of the above is just my own personal theory. In no way do I have insider information nor do I hope that IS the case. I am just making a prediction based on Palm's past history and attitude toward their user base.

Okay I have been reading posts of people who cannot hotsync with vista for a LONG time now. I have vista ultimate installed and I hotsync AND use quickinstall as well as syncing with outlook 2007 exchange.

I disabled User Account Control (UAC) in the control panel and installed the version off palm's website

after install I patched outlook conduits with another palm file:

and I have had no problems with it. For those of you so quick to slay palm for not supporting vista try it....

For those who are weary of turning off UAC for good, you can restart it after you load the software but you may have to run Hotsync as ADMINISTRATOR.

Regardless, users shouldn't have to resort to crossed fingers, hacks, 3rd party software and kludges to get Palm Desktop to work reliably under Vista. Palm is still very much in business and this foot dragging is inexcusable. At the very least, Palm should address this matter in their blog. I am fine with trying to run hacks/cracks/workarounds on old software & hardware or on stuff that's long since been discontinued (think 3dfx videocards under Win 2k/XP). But for Palm to just outright ignore Vista (and the various spin-off versions of XP) reeks of the kind of greedy indifference that's plagued them since the heady glory days of 1998/'99.

Sorry, but I can't understand how a third-party application installer is going to handle a firmware upgrade.

Because the firmware upgrade will be handled via INSTALL
