What about just using an external hard drive to back everything up?
  2. #22
Thats what I do. I use two of them. One is off site. I just meant that If I were to pay for an OTA option. It wouldn't be exclusive to the Treo.

Go on the pc - you need to enter the phone number and go through a captcha security info field . Easier

I think the whole purpose is for the business person on the go were the situation of catastrophic event of having a device accidentally gets wiped out or worse stolen - that the user can actually get to their critical data without hotsyncing to the computer

Okay...so I need to backup my two Treos to SD cards and three computers. Then, I need to backup my three computers to two external hard drives??? I'm trying to think if I have any information important enough to warrant all this backing up. Other than my kids' birthdays and my parents' phone numbers (which I have memorized)...I'm thinkin' no. How sad is that?

I backup on SD Card daily (BackupMan)
I backup my SD card weekly on to my laptop
    I hotsync daily
I backup my laptop to an external hard drive weekly (Windows OneCare)
    This should be enough.
So the only way I'll be at complete loss is if my house catches on fire and I'm in it and die.
So who needs a backup if I'm dead.

You be suprised what you miss once you have no way to retrieve it.

Lots of things can cause you to loose your ON site data. Like fire, theft, flood, fit of rage, etc...

you guys are all missing the boat here. This service isn't intended for you the techno wonk elitist/Treo geek/freak (and I'm smilin' when I say that cuz I are one, right there with ya).

This service is designed to appeal to the mass users - those who would never think to install Backup Buddy/whatever/BBNet/SD thing because that sort of app would just be too much for them to install and deal with. Yes - there are those out there for whom an on-device backup solution is too complex. (that would be the bulk of the users out there, quite honestly).

So no - you NVBackup FTP folks, put away your wireless keyboard that you're so furiously firing up to fly out some responses to this thread - Online Backup is not for you. It's for my wife, or the average Joe out there. And there are way many more of them than there are of us. THAT is the target user for this.

Yep. Now if only I could find that hologram of my wife to tell where the hell I left my wireless keyboard

You mean the target is someone like my wife who has a 650 but would never push the button to check email or sync to the Exchange Server I hooked her up to? Because it is too hard? And because email on your phone = same inbox on the computer was just unthinkable?

Yep. This service is for her. She hasn't hotsynced the 650 once to the home computer. She MIGHT use this.

    What a relief!

What's with all the wife comments? Women can be geeks too, ya know!

They (women) do tend to keep it more in perspective though

So far I have two resets and 5 failed attempts. Is it Monday already?

Mine went thru without a hitch... took about 20 mins the 1st time. I'll check the logs in the morning to see how long it takes overnight since I have it set to backup then.
If God brought you to it He'll bring you thru it!

Might be in conflict with an application you are using (third party).
