    Hi, new user here.

I'm trying to remap the email button so that it launches Gmail mobile app. But because the Gmail app runs under the Java Virtual machine, there is no entry for it under prefs.

I'd like to just hit the button once and have gmail open, is this possible?

    Thanks
    Tim

I tried that. The problem is that Gmail is not an option using that method. I would have to assign the Java VM to that button, then run Gmail from the VM.

What I'd like to do is set up that button to take me straight to Gmail.

    Odd...seems to work for me.

(although a soft reset will probably go back to your default client)

Are you using the Gmail app from the mobile website or the Gmail .prc from one of the threads here on the forum?

I think he means a link to the gmail website

I get as far as this:

At that point, Gmail is not in the drop down list.

Also, I'm using the installed Gmail app, not the web page. The app required that I install a Java Virtual Machine. The JVM is present in the drop down list, but I'd like if I could just hit the mail button and launch Gmail, rather then launching the JVM, then having to select Gmail from there.

BTW, thank you all for the replies. Sorry for the late reply, I was out of town on vacation.

So you're using the Gmail app downloaded from the Gmail mobile site? You may want to try this one if you are...

I'm using that .prc and the email button maps fine from the Preferences panel.

Another option would be to use the POP3 feature of GMail with Versamail. This works out better for me since I have several Email accounts.

I use the gmail website; I find it easier and more efficient than the app. I have the mail button mapped to browser and gmail set as my home. Workd great for me.
