How in the WORLD do you use this program? I tired to search and find anything on this through a few forums and through google and everyplace talks like you are supposed to already know how it works. Well, I guess I am a computer *****.

All I want to use it for is so I can use my SN for my fantasy baseball site on Opera...

My name is "jm_phenom23" and of course opera will not allow me to input the "_"

    Did you read the instructions?

"Defining a shortcut: Launch the preferences application and then select the ShortCut5
preference panel (the ShortCut5 preference panel is not visible from any launcher). The
ShortCut5 preference panel allows the creation, deletion, and modification of shortcuts.
ShortCut5 comes with zero predefined shortcuts so you’ll need to define your own.

Expanding a shortcut: To expand a shortcut, enter a period “.” character followed immediately
by the shortcut name. Do not change text fields or change the insertion point within
the same text field while entering the shortcut name.

Limitations: Maximum of one hundred shortcuts definitions. Each shortcut name is from
one to four characters in length. Shortcut names are case sensitive and cannot contain the
period “.” character. ShortCut5 is only supported on PalmOS 5.x and on locales that use
single byte characters. ShortCut5 will not recursively expand shortcut definitions. Shortcuts
will expand at a moderate speed (as to not overflow the key queue). The ShortCut5
application cannot be located on an external memory card.
    "

As it says, enter a period followed by the shortcut name.

After the "." enter "j" or something that you want to start the shortcut with. Then you enter the text you want the shortcut to show when entering the name (or "." and letters) you assigned.

Your name would be "."j. When you type in .j then you're password should appear.

    Ok...I opened the app

for the NAME I typed in "jm"

for the SHORTCUT I typed in ".jm_phenom23"

Now I think after reading this thread over and over and the directions over and over I think I just type ".jm" to activate it??

I have no idea why this is so confusing. I am honestly not retarded...but the way the directions are written and what you guys are telling me just seems like it is leaving something out...I have SEARCH FOR DAYS different boards to avoid posting this post and getting another smartass dumbass* remark from someone because "I just dont get it like you do...sorry"

*I was talking about Gamble's post...not yours christina...I appreciate you actually trying to help.

    It really isn't that difficult.

    click new
next to name type the shortcut name you want such as jm as you've done.
Under shortcut type the symbol you want to assign for the shortcut, such as _

When you want to use the shortcut type .jm that will make the symbol _

I dont appreciate your tone; I was trying to help. I asked you plainly what wasn't clear in the instructions, so that I might explain that point. You refused to say.

I'll risk getting flamed again and try once more. In a nutshell:
    1. Name = jm

    2. Shortcut = jm_phenom23

    3. Activate the shortcut by typing .jm
    V > Vx > m505 > m515 > T/T > T3 > TC > 650 > 680
    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://download.skype.com/share/skypebuttons/js/skypeCheck.js"></script>

The problem may be the "App List..." and "Preferences...", I suggest [Preferences...]->[Enable all apps]. Also don't add the "." in the "Name" and "Shortcut, but only while actually using it."

Yes, I did get it to work...I am not sure what the issue was but I went over it hundreds of times and it would not work. So I just deinstalled the program and installed it on my buddies 700p and it worked...so I think installed a clean copy and it worked right away. I had it right the first time but I have no idea why the heck it wasnt registering when I would type ".jm"

Thanks for the help Christian and Co.

Good...I'm glad you got it to work. Usually when an app is known to work for your device and it doesn't, you should try uninstalling and reinstalling to see if something went wrong during the installation. At least you proved you're not "a big dumbass"

    Hi Bill

Don't worry, most of us on TreoCentral know how very helpful you are.

Some people take offence too easily and then become plain rude.

    Keep up the good work

Glad you got it working. Now, if I were you, I'd offer apologies to Bill Gamble. I think he was only trying to help (that's all I ever see him do on this forum).

Okay boys...an apology was asked for and would be nice, but I'm sure Bill isn't tearing his hair out about the whole "episode". Rehashing it isn't going to make it any better...

FWIW the op was frustrated that the information he had access to seemed to assume you already had knowledge as to its functionality. IMO Bills post also seemed to imply such, and I wasn't already frustrated. It was only when Bill explained his question did it become evident that he was simply trying to disect the problem. Cut the OP some slack. Like lady said.... Im sure Bill isn't concerned.
