How can I turn off the sound it makes when I press a button or touch the screen without turning off all sounds or turning on the silent switch?

Unfortunately you can't turn that individual sound off. That is one that's bundled under the System Volume setting under Prefs -> Sound & Alerts (or Sounds application) -> Application: System.

Is there an add-on program available that gives more control over these sounds?

I found something for the Treo 650, but I have no idea if it will work on the 700p.

What other sounds fall under System other than key press sounds?

The Hotsync sound, phone-on, phone-off...probably some others. I've always found those annoying and have kept System Sounds=off for all of my Palm devices.

Via Sounds and System you can control the volume level or turn off the sound for the key pad and touch screen. Via other areas under Sound you can have the same control over various ring tones, phone alerts, calendar alerts, and messaging alerts. All these can be controlled independently.

The sliding on/off switch on the top overrides all the Sound settings settings.

Thanks for posting the question....I discovered how to turn off the tone that rings when my phone loses and then recapture a cell tower signal.

The 700p doesn't have separate settings for the screen or keyboard.
