I can't seem to find another thread to answer my question, probably because the search terms are just too common. The question is:

When my Sprint Treo 650 hasn't been charged for a while and dies or it reboots (which it does often), the "phone" is often "off" when the Treo comes back on. I end up missing calls because I don't realize that I have to go in and turn the "phone" on. The only way I've found to do this is to hold the power button or, more often, I'm told that the phone is off when I go to check my voicemail. By that time, who knows how many calls I've missed. Is there a setting somewhere that will automatically turn the "phone" on as soon as the Treo plugged in to be charged? Or some software that has this function? Unless I'm missing something silly, it seems like a bizarre oversight. If the Treo is on, the "phone" should be on. As far as I'm concerned, the Treo IS the "phone".

I've found a setting similar to this for the PCS Vision network to be turned on whenever the "phone" is powered on but I want to turn the "phone" on automatically.

My phone does the same thing except it won't let me turn on the phone. I hold down the power button until I see the splash screen and even though it tells me the phone is powering on, it doesn't actually turn on. The only thing that I have found that works is removing and replacing the battery...

    That's not normal...

Treohelper, also freeware, handles this well. Also does a great job of managing battery drain when encountering weak network signals and/or going in and out of roaming (I'm frequently in two buildings that play total havoc with cell signals).

Also a nifty feature that auto-confirms some connection dialogs for you (if you wish to use it).

Another thing to note about Treohelper. If I find the phone is turned off, it was either because:

I had manually turned it off (in which case I would have to manually turn it on or wait for a profile to turn it on).

A profile turned it off (again, manual turn on or wait for profile to do it).

Treohelper turned it off because of no signal. But not to worry, because based on your Treohelper settings, it'll turn the phone back on automatically when a signal is available.

I used RadioState on my 650. It's got one nice touch that none of the others I looked at had. If the radio is on when your Treo resets, it turns it back on. If the radio is off and your Treo resets, it leaves it off.

All the other apps I tried would turn the radio on even when I wanted it to stay off.

I'm out of my mind. But feel free to leave a message.
