I have made four attempts to hot sync AvantGo today and it seems as though it's collecting data and updating {on the visor and desktop} and it says HS complete but when I try to open it ,,,it says either no connection or the delay has been too long so AG timed it out.
    Any suggestions
    Thanks

I had the same issues, it timed out when trying to update pages. I del'd all my channels and that didn't fix it. After about a half-hour, it was up and working again, and I had to go though the pain of restoring all my chanels.

Try it again in an hour or so.

i've synced about a half dozen or more times in the last hour and a half (trying to get a good weather channel...see other thread). Sorry!

maybe i'm tying up the server!
wow, it's been awhile.....things have REALLY changed...why is my Visor Edge still in my hand? Will a Treo fit better?

They are in the process of switching to the new 4.0 software due out sometime this week.

It's happening to me again. takes FOREVER to "Search for updated web pages", a LONG time to dl the pages, and the Avantgo homepage never shows up--I have to navigate via the channel manager.

    help?

I've been having this problem for the last 4 or 5 days... and since I usually hotsync while I'm running around getting ready for work I don't notice that the connection times out, and I don't see the "AvantGo closed the connection to this page because it was idle too long" error until I go to read my Sci Fi news at work.

I hope it's just upgrade problems, but I wouldn't be surprised at a deterioration in their free service... has anyone heard anything about them offering a premium service lately? If it was reasonably priced I would probably sign up. They may well need to start charging for their service to keep from becoming another casualty of the dot com fallout.

    1) AvantGo's servers were down during an upgrade. They are up now and running.

    2) MAKE SURE you have updated your hotsync manager if you are using USB!!!

Go to the Palm site and download it from the support pages. This should fix some of your sync problems. I know it says it is only for the m500 series, but it worked for my old Visor Delux. Try it out.

Here's a new one - AvantGo timed out on me again (If I need to upgrade something as suggested above, I wish AvantGo would send me an e-mail about it) when I hotsynced this morning, so I decided to try doing a modem sync in AvantGo - the modem sync worked, but after it finished downloading all the new pages I saw the message "Installing AvGoPimPod1" and a progress bar as something else downloaded onto my Visor.

Anyone know what AvGoPimPod is? It annoys me when programs automatically download/install things without at least warning me.

I don't know what it is, but I've got it too, installed on the 14th on a regular USB hotsync. It's file type is "pods," whatever that is. 14,706 bytes, a Resource DB, and marked as a backup bit. Go figure.

    From AvantGo's User Support page:
    Alert

Timed out message: If you see a timed out message on the AvantGo home page on your device, access your latest channel information through the AvantGo Channel Manager instead. High service demand may cause this message to appear, but it affects the home page only.
I also tried searching for AvGoPimPod but didn't come up with anything.

The PIM pod is a program that allows certain applications to connect to your date book. Right now it is limited to advertising. The Honda ad that just ran allowed you to set a reminder in your date book for the launch of the CRV.

This is all opt-in advertising (they will not add anything you do not choose to add) but if they are smart they will extend it to the content partners like CNN (set a reminder to watch this certain show....).

Anytime, and I do mean ANYTIME, I have had trouble hotsyncing to Avantgo, the trouble has been at their end. They periodically send back odd error messages, like that the connection has timed out, or you have exceeded your limit of hotsyncing for the day, but it is NEVER actually the case. They have system problems, and the error message should really just let us know that, and to try again later. The error message is ALWAYS a Red Herring, and should be ignored.

Just saw this in AvantGo's FAQ:
    What does AVGOPIMPOD1 do?

The AvGoPimPod1 is an application extension to Mobile Internet. It transfers promotional information from certain banner ads to a calendar or contacts application. AvGoPimPod1 activates only when a user requests it to and then only writes to the user's calendar and contacts applications. AvGoPimPod1 does not read any user data.

    Hi,
You may want to give Plucker a try:

Byron, I can't get that URL to work. Could you check to make sure it's right? Thanks

I haven't been able to sync Avantgo with my windows computer since I started using it. It downloads the pages alright, but take over an hour 'n' a half to save 300+ pages. Then when I open AvantGo, nothing is there. I select channel manager and the links are there, but they're all empty.

Byron, I'd love to give pucker a try, but I'd miss Jokeaday, bbspot, etc. If things don't start working soon, I won't have a choice (which makes more sence: having a few channels that work, or tons of channels that don't?).

    I've decided to become enigmatic.

    Hey ByronC,
Is Plucker similar to avantgo? Does it have a similar interface or it it better then avantgo. I didn't see any screen shots on the site.

    OK,
I take that back I just did find some screen shots...but I my questions still stands...Does is it better then avantgo? The two apps seem to be completely different.
