    Hi In Living Color,
Check out their FAQ over on Plucker Web Site > www.plkr.org
About the different(s) of AvantGo & Plucker.
I use Plucker for "VisorCentral Mobile" also

You might be hitting the sync limits (2mb/sync, 20mb/day) imposed by AvantGo . Try reducing the number of channels and see if that helps.

Tried that. No dice. Avantgo had me test my connection to their servers - fine. They had me remove my profile from Avantgo Connect and add/configure it manually - still no luck. It's connecting to the servers alright. The device gets updated and the pages get found etc., but it takes an incredibly long time to save them, and they're not there when it's done. I've tried running palm desktop while syncing and that made no difference. I'm stumped.

Are you by any chance behind a firewall or proxy server? If so, there's settings for that in the AvantGo Connect contol panel applet.

Not at home, though I will check for any settings I missed in Win98 or IE 5.5 sp2.

Got an email from Avantgo saying that Beyond2000 looked like it might be causing some problems. I removed it, but the same thing happened again. So I removed every channel and added them one-by-one. Every thing works except:

    ABC News
    Beyond2000
    VisorCentral

Update: http://www.visorcentral.com/mobile works splendidly as a custom channel. As I look at the list again, those were my top 3 channels size-wise. Now it's time to narrow down the suspects.

Hopefully, we've restored some of your faith in Windows.

I can't say for the first two, but are you using the VisorCentral mobile link or do you have it set up as a custom channel? If it's the latter, you need to turn on the AvantGo option for tables (menu, Options, Preferences) because the new VC is basically done as one large table.

Well, maybe some. I don't think the problem was with windows, but with PalmOS 4 or it's hotsync conduit because the problems listed with Palm's hotsync updater sound suspiciously like the problems I've been having - even after installing their update.

you need to turn on the AvantGo option for tables [/B]
There is no difference between the two, though I already had tables set to make Wunderground.com's printable forcast look prettier.

And I just got ABC News to work by making another custom channel out of http://mobile.go.com/pocketpc/abcnews , and Beyond2000 just got installed nicely. Everything is back to normal (for the most part).

Being the way I am, I was unable to leave well enough alone. I removed all traces of Avantgo, Palm Desktop, etc. from my computer. I then hard reset my m505 and reset the flash RAM. Then I downloaded the latest version of Palm Desktop and hotsync manager (w/updates) and installed AvantGo onto a virgin system. It still had problems with any channel totaling over ~75KB.

I'm using plucker. It's better than Avantgo anyway. I can view the actual web page reformatted very intelligently rather than stripped down AvantGo versions. Thanks for the links, ByronC.

Holy god.. that's crazy!!! Hopefully they're watching this thread and will figure something out for the next release, which will also have VFS support (right? right??)

I've been happy with avantgo, but I'm going to look into plucker now that the glory that is msmount has freed up a bunch of ram!

I'm not sure, but I believe plucker takes up less memory than all AvantGo's files. I do know that getting my news and information is not dependant on two servers (mine and AvantGo's) anymore - a definite increase in consistency (unless @Home goes belly-up). The home page is basically an html file of your own creation (no ads!) with all the benefits associated therein. Just follow the help file the first time through and all will be explained. Quite nice.

    Hi,
With Plucker; you have to think of each channel as being
    a new database. For each database, there's a plucker.ini
file that need your manual setting ( I use the NotePad in Windows) type in directing it to the web site of your choosing.
There are other setting also within this file that you will have
    to set.

Not really. I have all my channels in one database named home.html that gets synced to my m505 through default.pdb. It's that .html file I edit when I want to add or remove "channels." Most of them get their information directly from the web, but I am working on another self-made .html that will be saved on my computer and accessed through plucker. That way I can designate exactly which links work for jokeaday without committing RAM to pages I never view (e.g. "hunk a day").
