Then Kudos, Syphon Filter 1 (and 2) were excellent.

Read it and weep. I think this is pretty clear. . . and direct from Marc (http://discussion.treocentral.com/ne...te=1&p=1204770)

ChattereMail and FuseMail (IMAP server) have changed my life! VersaMail stinks. How many times has Vmail crashed on YOU, leaving your accounts gone and forgotten

    1) I will no longer be actively developing ChatterEmail. However, ChatterEmail will continue to be available for new users through this site for the foreseeable future.

    2) Support will continue to be provided for the foreseeable future; however, I will not be doing this personally.

    3) Support will be less responsive than it has been. Users should mainly rely on the FAQs and these forums for help. Emergency requests for registration and connections issues can be mailed to priorityhelp@chatteremail.com; no other types of questions will be answered at that address.

Maybe this also signals a potential return of ChatterIM type client as a Palm product ..they were looking for IM client developers at one stage as I recall

I think it was Handspring that forged alliance with CESD/DateBk for use with the 600 (which Palm eventually acquired). Was there a time where Palm actually did something like this?

Palm .. Handspring .. It's all the same now. The same people are running the company.

Wasn't this already stated in link in the first message in this thread?

I think we all read that (and have been discussing it). I'm not sure what your point was in quoting that again. If it was "Marc has left the building", he moved into another one we care equally about. Marc was forthright and honest that support (and even purchases) can continue, and that the level of service will be less than we've come to expect in the past. I, for one, appreciate his honesty.

Maybe you wanted us to read between the lines because no promise was made to support it forever. That's a tradeoff that most of us seem to be happy with. A developer who can write complex feature-rich software that more or less works out of the box (even on devices he has not tested it on before release) has joined the ranks of Palm employees. Why should we be weeping?

The link sent me back to this thread. I didn't read it again because I figure it pretty much will say the same thing.

Congratulations Marc!! Now may be you will able to find some time to sleep. I very happy with ChatterMail as it today and I do not need any new enhancements and it is very stable. I can not say the same thing about PalmOS, may be you will be able to help in this area. My plans have been to go to WM OS as soon as Palm releases a Sprint phone with at least 320 x 320 resolution screen. In the mean time I will live like a fat cat enjoying your ChatterMail creation. I hope you will enjoy the many new challenges your encounter at Palm . Like everyone has said Palm is better today than it was last Sunday.

I didn't mean the link in Post #43 of this thread, I meant that the text written below the link in post #43 was quoted from the page linked in post #1. Since we have already read the quoted post, what did the author of post #43 mean to say?

Me too. I knew something was up when the updates started becoming infrequent. At the same time, the app has been so stable for so long that I also figured Marc was taking a much deserved break. I guess he was - breaking for interviews with Palm!

Marc, your an awesome developer and have made the treo stand tall next to the Blackberry push email guys! Amen to you and good luck for the future.

Marc, thanks for all your previous help. I have recommended Chatter to many people. Now that you're at Palm, I'm sure the stock price can only go higher! You the man! - Casey

    My guess too.
    • Palm OS is really not dead.
    • Palm dumped Linux (according to me, a good thing).
    • The next device will have ChatterEmail bundled.

Um....Palm dumping Linux would NOT be a good thing. They need a new more modern OS if anything to be able to handle the hardware and communications technologies coming out (like UMTS). GarnetOS can't run UMTS. They really really need something new.
  17. #57
Yeah, Palm needs a more robust and modern underpinnings than POS. If they keep the POS look, that's perfectly fine with me. But the underlying OS needs updating. It needs memory protection and multitasking to keep up with That Other OS.
  18. #58
Yeah, I really do wish POS had better multitasking. I've been considering WM lately though for the first time ever, because I'm getting fed up with apps on POS that just aren't updated anymore, or being discontinued, etc. (Chatter is one example, although its pretty perfect as is anyway, but Verichat is another example.)

I think the likely scenerio is like you say. Palm sees a potential asset in ChatterEmail. They could put it in the future models instead of Versamail. Employing Marc brings Palm the expertise to further develop the app. Marc can apply all his efforts to Chatter at work with the additional resources (we hope) Palm will provide. Hopefully Palm does this right and we all end up with the best email app possible.

Congrats, Marc. All the best at Palm. Whenever you can, drop us a note and let us know what you have been working on at Palm.
