I had just enabled "On Demand" tonight and automatically got signed up for Handmark's newsletter. They sent me an email attempting to sell me Webmessenger. One thing I noticed was the following two "*" sencences on the page:

*Requires the use of 'chat10' promotion code. All promotions expire February 22, 2007.
** WebMessenger is a yearly subscription product and requires a wireless data plan.

The second one indicates this is a subscription, good for a year.
The first one gives you a little discount if you act soon.

Here is the link to product information:
    http://www.handmark.com/products/detail.php?id=923

PS: One thing this adds is Google Talk.
I haven't researched this yet, but it might be a good alterntive to Causerie.
(My subscription there is expiring soon

    Edit #2:
They have a way of talking to skype users too!
There is free (not more than the yearly Webmessenger subscription) plan with 20 or less buddies.
You can pay around $4/month for a more extensive skype add-on.
They have a skype client for Palm-OS!

    Edit #3 1/2:
This requires a desktop client for Skype:
    (treo->deskop->SkypeOut)
Edit 6 1/2: You don't need the base subscription to use skype.
Edit 6 3/4: This involves a call bact to your cell phone, so it would be
useful to save on international calls but you would still have cell minutes.
    (No longer useful to me.)
Excerpt from the above web page:
    ...
IMPORTANT:All of our WebMessenger for Mobile Skype applications require
that you install the WebMessenger Mobile for Skype Desktop Plug-in on
the same machine that you are running your desktop Skype software application.

    Edit #4:
As wierd as this link is: (handango for PalmOS on an "Abb About Sybian" branded page)
It does offer a 2 week trial. I could not find the program on the regular handango page.)

Edit #5: Webmessenger, Inc. and Handmark seem to be different companies.
The "support" link on the handmark page pointed to the webmessenger page.
There were links about the Spype (I guess I'll call it a "connector") on the webmessenger page.

Edit #6: They also have a $5.95/month subscription.

They do have a trial download (15 day) on their website. I stopped when they asked me to create an account and enter all of my usernames and passwords for the different chat services.

    NO THANKS!

I guess there isn't any other easy way to integrate multiple services without proxying for the user on each. I view this as a necessary evil. I think Causerie works the same way. They do offer an enterprise server, so you can keep all the individual passwords on your own server.

I downloaded both that and Mundo. Right now, I'm liking Mundo. You can buzz (as lame as that sounds) people on Yahoo plus it has different colors for you and the person you're chatting with. Mundo also was showing everyone on my list, while Webmessenger was just showing 1-3 people (7-9 were online at the time). Maybe I missed a setting or something, but they're all in the same category. I'll keep trying both of them out, but, for now, Mundo looks like what I'll be going with.

Chatopus is another good one. It's a little hard to setup but rock solid.
