Staying close to the original topic.

Is the sim lock placed on the GSM board or is it on the main motherboard?

Reason I ask is because I had this unlocked 650 GSM that was broken and I bought another 650 that had some problems with the phone (wouldn't get the network). I replaced the boards but it says "sim card can't be used" and I can make emergency calls only.

I put a Sprint motherboard in my Cingular unlocked phone. You just have to use the ROMTool to flash the firmware and fix the tokens.

You can do anything with it; just make sure the partition size matches. The Sprint is the same as CNG, as I recall.
