Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find any earlier threads.

I will keep my 650 until the day it crumbles in my hands if I can somehow put a 700p camera in the 650. Are the internals the same? Same pin-outs, etc?

Quite simply, can it be done? Has it been?

    -Nick.

    I didn't think??? Isn't the 700p a 1.0 or 1.2 MP camera whereas the 650 is like a .5 MP?

Yeah, per palm.com, the 700p is:

    1.3 megapixels with 1280x1024 resolution
    Automatic light balance
    2x digital zoom
    Integrated self-portrait mirror
    Video capture with 352 x 288 resolution

The 650 is nowhere near this.

IIRC, there were a few posts a long while back where someone had determined the software for the camera on the 650 could accept a "higher rated camera" - I was wondering the same about one of the newer cameras in the 650...

i'd give it a go if it actually works.

I had assumed since the 680 was a VGA the 700p would be as well.

I still say that .3MP or 1.2MP of bad pixels is still a bad picture. Unless it gets a decent glass lens and some sort of aperture control, a camera phone camera just sucks. Sony makes a few which are actually decent cameras, but they were made to be that way. Not just another feature, like most cameras in phones are.

I understand the camera is basically incompatible.

The connector is not the same.

Of course, it might be possible to modify it...

Personally, I view the camera as basically a toy. Good only for the occasionally snapshot to e-mail to someone, perhaps.

the camera connectors are definitely not the same. there are 2 extra pins on the 700 and the connector is a tad longer so will not fit into the 650 socket.
