I ask as I keep my spare at work..usually with the charger on..is this a good thing keeping it at 100% basically until i switch batteries in my 680, or is there some side effect on the battery (like shortened life span)?

    Leave it there. No issues.

I would alternate between batteries when you think to change it -- that way you are getting the maximum life out of both of them (as opposed to using one over and over and over) but the overiding "concern" is just don't worry about it. :-) Congrats on getting a new battery! Anyone who doesn't is missing out. And don't get me started on the iPhone. :-)

come on KR, you can walk into any Apple store and get it replaced in no time. but will the new battery be fully charged?

I would not leave it charging 24/7. Once I'd notice that it was fully charged, I'd pull it off and then I would rotate as KM says.
