    I have this thought...

I read that for Treo 650, I have to use romtool an installing FAT32 and Treo 680 file to ROM, right? If I use Treo 700p, I just have to copy that Treo 680 SD file to RAM.

I've customizing my Treo 650 so it has been using FAT32, in this case, can I just put that Treo 680 file to RAM like Treo 700p?

    Am I right??

I don't want to hijack the thread, but Palm Powerup's dmitry is working on it, and he's said he's confident it can be done. Keep an eye on that forum.

outpost.com (FRys Electronics) has the 8GB Transcend card for $99.99 with a $10 rebate making it $89.99 effectively.

Maybe you forgot deleting FATFS.prc before adding FAT32.prc into ROM. Use fileZ to check it in Rom.

perhaps. however if you ever do a hard reset while not around a computer that has the 680 file on it, you cant read your sdhc card (so no back up, no files, no music, nothing on that card). that's why putting the files in ROM is such a benefit on the 650.

yeah baby! my 4GB was running low on space with all my TomTom maps on it as well as the music and movies. but i have a question. why can't you just format the SD card in the treo like you can with the 4Gb? or perhaps maybe partition it to read the sdcard like two drives? i never did it myself but i don't see why this should not work.

Thanks for all the info on the use of an 8gb card in a treo 650, but what do I need to do to use a 4gb card, anything or does it just "work". I am what was called below a "n00b" I think, eg, I have never done anything with my ROM the closest I have gotten is a sprint update or two over the years to my 600 and now 650. I have and am using succesfully a 2gb, but saw a 4gb advertised which I would like to get if it will easilly work...so, do I need to do anything tricky to get a 4gb to work with my 650, or will it be smooth sailing, just copy the files from my 2gb to 4gb, and plop it in to the slot? Thanks

Questions about using Transcend 8GB SDHC on Treo 650:
    1. If I have applications currently running on a 2GB SD Card, will my current 2GB card (and applications) work after make the recommended changes (ROMtool to support FAT32)?
    2. Can I just use a PC to move all the contents of my 2GB Card over to the 8GB SDHC card, or will I have to re-install all of the applications that are currently on my 2GB Card?
    3. Are you aware of any applications that have issues running on the 8GB SDHC card? I assume this could be the situation?
    4. If I backup my current ROM suing the the ROMtool, is it easy to "go back" if things don't work out?
    5. Any word on Palm making an update to officially support the 8GB on the Treo 650 ?

Please advise - and I would love to hear about experiences using the Transcend 8GB card... as I could really use the space.

    Thanks!

Thanks for that link supersocialist. It was pretty interesting. Although it appears that Dmitry has written some complicated stuff, re-writing a faulty interface library sounds like an overambitious project to me. But I will be watching with interest.

I tend to agree with the thread's assessment that Palm has been stuck with Access under-updating their source code. Probably why Palm just brokered that deal for it.

Heyknee2 - the largest card that will just "work" is 2GB, anything larger will require a custom ROM.

Mamboking 1) yes, 2) you can move using your PC, 3) don't know, 4) yes, 5) don't know, but doubt it since the 650 has been retired.

The problem is if the card does not support the full volume size when you stick it into your computer and back into the Treo it will not recognize the data and want you to format it. could be fine if you just use card export or Card reader as the card stays in the Treo but transfers from the pc to the Treo will be at USB 1.1 witch is very slow for files over 30MB, not to mention that their will be lots of data corruptions if the card only sees 4GB. Don’t believe me then try using a 4GB card with a stock 650. It’s the same thing. This is why I want to partition the drive into two partitions of 4GBs. doing so will let windows and the Palm Os get along just fine granted Palm’s Os allows for it.

as for trusting the Treo to transfer large amounts of data back and fourth the answer is yeah you can try it but I would not trust it to keep it in tact even if it reads the entire volume. In my experience the Treo is just not too Trust worthy for critical data transfers to the SD card.

You need Shadowmite’s Fats file and then you make a custom ROM. The best way to do it is to make a ROM out of the Image you already have using the Treo 650 Rom Tool 1.0.0.0 and just replace the Fats file with the hacked one in a copy of your original Image. If you like I can email it to you that way It will save you allot of time trying to understand how to configure one.
if you do like I say you are in no danger of destroying your Treo like some have done using Shadowmite’s instructions.

    just drop me your address

Thanks for the Amazon link. I just ordered one including the micromate card reader. I dont think Dell or Hp will be coming out with an sdhc upgrade for the built in card reader any time soon.

I had a problem with reset loop before. Then I removed the tutorial and xpress mail from the rom. It works fine now. Maybe it has something to do with the rom size being too big. Who knows. I am using Trancend 8G SDHC.

This article discusses a hotfix that adds support for SD High Capacity (SDHC) memory cards in Microsoft Windows XP.

    Here's the download link http://hotfix.xable.net/download/ind...v4-x86-ENU.exe

I hope it makes us read the 8 gig card. If it does, I just wasted money on the card reader I just purchased.

    Hi EasyZ!
I just bought a 4gig sd card and found out the Treo doesn't read it. I've been reading this forum, downloaded all the necessary files, installed it and was up to the point when after Windows XP found the my Treo 650 hooked up. So I loaded RomTool but unfortunately it doesn't see the phone. RomTool had an error connecting to it. Can you tell me what I've done wrong. Does my Treo have to be unlocked somehow? Please help. Thanks in advanced!

Hold on! I just tried taking out security password in my Treo and it finally connected. I've downloaded a zipped backup of my ROM, then downloaded a copy in a folder. I'm about to strip the unnecessary stuff and embed the Fat32 that I need to make the 4 gig card readable. Wish me luck and not brick my Treo 650.
So folks! make sure you unassign your password first before you connect your phone and transport to the boot loader. This was never documented. Later . . . . .
