It worked ok the first day but has been a nightmare ever since. Will freeze and then after a couple of minutes will unfreeze and perform all the requests I did when it was frozen really reallly quickly, then it will freeze up again. When I try to restart it, the phone often frezes on the Preferences menu where you can automatically or manually set the date and time. This has always been my first screen after powering up (new to Treo so not sure if this is the norm or not - but I could see how that could get annoying after a while having to always having to enter this info). The phone also freezes when I get into World Clock. My gut is telling me all these problems are from that. Oh and also I downloaded Bejeweled, Fish Tycoon, and Monopoly. Anyway...obviously I'm going to return this phone but wondering if anyone can give me some hints to fix this in the meantime?

    Thanks in advance...

Do a hard reset and wipe it clean. load on only the basic information without the additional 3rd party apps. then see if it works. If it's not freezing then your pretty sure that one of your software is not compatible.

I suspect it's 3rd party software rather than the device. If you don't find the problem or eliminate the possibility that it is software then the next unit will not be any better.

Hard reset is taking battery out while pressing power button right? I've done that many times.

How do I "wipe it clean?"

For a hard reset, take the battery out and replace it while holding the power button. Do not release the power button until the second screen, with the round Palm logo, appears. At that point, you'll see a message to the effect that pressing the 'up' button will delete all data; press the 'up' button at that point.

After a successful hard reset, rename your desktop /Palmone/<userid>/Backup directory (to, say, Backup.old); then Hotsync. That'll load just your PIM data without any of your 3rd party software.

It's not a hard reset unless you get to the second Palm screen, release the Power button, and it ask you if you want to "erase all data".. Then you press up on the 5-way button. You will now have a clean device.

Did you upgarde from a previous Treo and Hotsync over your old user ID and all your backups? If, so, this is most likely your issue. See the first thread in this forum under "Upgrading from Previous device" and do the clean install method. This should fix your problems!!
