This is a matter of opinion

My new laptop comes monday and I think im gonna just make the Jump to Vista (which seems OK so far). Vista supports SDHC cards out of the box.

I got my Transcend 8GB Sd Card from Chumbo.com. The price with fedex overnight supersaver was $103.00. I thought that was a really good price and they shipped it out same day. The rep on the phone was very courteous and helpful as well.

I have purchased two 8GB SDHC cards. The first came from newegg.com. They seem to not be carrying the product anymore.

The second one was from the Amazon link above. The "vendor" ended up being TigerDirect.com.

Both cards work fine in two different Treo 680s.

Again, I was very happy with the MicroMate reader that I ordered from Amazon. (I've ordered 4 of them now).

Next up, I'll give a try of that SDHC XP Hotfix... my laptop has a built-in SD reader. Hopefully it will work.

    Good luck!

I have a Sandisk 4GB SDHC card that I got from Amazon.com with the MicroMate reader, and the XP hotfix worked on my Dell Inspiron 6000 with built-in SD card reader.

This article discusses a hotfix that adds support for SD High Capacity (SDHC) memory cards in Microsoft Windows XP.

    Here's the download link http://hotfix.xable.net/download/ind...v4-x86-ENU.exe

i tried this for my X41 notebook but it didnt work. how do i know which file to download?

    ekerbuddy,

First dowload the appropriate driver for your texas media card reader. You can see what you need by going to device manager. I have posted both pcixx21 and pcixx20 links. Installing 21 on a 20 will make you have hibernation problems so be sure to only use what's appropriate.

After this, install the sdhc hotfix I posted.

What we need to establish is if this will enable the built in sd card reader to work on the 8 gig sdhc card.

Please post your results. : )

What happened to your update Jeff? Where you able to read the 8 gig sdhc using your built in card reader?

    ekerbuddy,

I don't know anyplace that I can recommend that sells the *Transcend* card reader (it looks like they make a 16 in 1 reader), however I can tell you I've been very happy with the Sandisk MicroMate Readers I have purchased off of Amazon.com.

The link I used is this:
    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/external-search/002-6608911-4088031?field-keywords=B000HDQ2G6&index=blended

Hopefully that will help steer you to a reader you will be happy with.

I forgot to mention that I purchased a Sandisk SDHC MicroMate card reader from Best Buy for $16.00. It works great and takes all the other formats besides SD.

I bought mine from Transcend when I ordered the card. It was about $7, I think. Works with my 8GB SDHC and XP (Vaio notebook) computer just fine. It is the Transcend Compact Card Reader S1.

the file worked on my x41 IBM! it feels 10x faster than CardReader! thanks.

The SDHC Hotfix that was posted above worked for me too.

I already had the drivers installed for the SD/SDHC reader that is built-in to my laptop. I then installed the Hotfix.

Now, I can read my 8 GB Transcend SDHC card from the built-in SD/SDHC reader in my laptop.

For those that are interested, I'm using a Dell Inspiron 6400.

    Great find above, guys... THANKS!

Im happy for you guys that what I found made you read the 8 gig sdhc. When my card comes, it will be surely convenient to use my built in instead of the card reader I bought for it. I wasted 25 dollars for the sandisk micromate.... Unless it can read memory stick duos, I wont have any use for it.

Btw, can resco explorer see the 8 gig or does it still show only up to 4 gig?
