How can palm do this? switch the asterisk to a swinging bell?

and how could no one else mention it.

I might have to send it back for this.

btw, on another note i like the feel of the 680. i especially like the concave sides.

They first did this on the 700p. I guess too many people couldn't figure out the asterisk was an alert.

I've already contacted Palm and stated that if they aren't going to change it back to the asterisk - then they've lost a customer for life.

This is the most comfortable Treo phone that I've owned. It has some of the early adopter issues - as they all do - but this is a keeper. BT is great, sound quality and reception is much better than the 650.

I'll probably put Butler on the device when it's fully tweaked for the 680 but with the LED off instead of that D*** flashing and now LauncherX is working (updated), Agendus is working on their fixes - this thing rocks.

I will order a HD battery from Seidio when it's available but the way I function in and out of the car all day - then I'm on the ProClip charger holder most of the time.

In short - I am a very happy camper.

OMG!!! We may have to resort to a class action!! How can they do something like this? I have lost huge functionality here. I am used to being in a meeting, and having the asterisk tell me what was going on. This is clearly a device limitation.

The treo 680 Rocks!!! *******Thanks for starting this thread*********

Asterisk? Wow. That's a big word. I need my dictionary.

I thought you meant they got rid of the blinking snowflake.

OK, no having fun in here! Get back to complaining about the battery and non-flashing LED!

um, what do u mean by the missing asterisk? you mean, we wouldnt be able to put asterisks like when texting? im confused hehe pardon me (new palm user here)

The 650 had a blinking asterisk in the upper left corner( I think it was there) when a new message came in.
HP has officially ruined it's own platform and kicked webOS loyalists and early TouchPad adopters to the curb. You think after you drop it like a hot potato and mention it made no money and is costing you money, anyone else wants it??? Way to go HP!!

And some people are fools to keep believing their hype. HP has shown they will throw webOS under the bus and people are still having faith in them??? News flash: if it's own company won't stand behind it, it's finished!

    You guys are such kidders.

Like, it was only an asterisk! Pffftt!

Everyone knows it blinked your next appointment's details in Morse.

How's a swinging bell gonna do that????? Semaphores????

OMG you're kidding. I use the asterisk every day for work so I can see if I missed something. But now, I hear this "swinging bell" is a hardware limitation.

    PALM MUST BE STOPPED!!

But of course! I haven't seen mine yet though.

A thread talking about this is at the bottom of the front page.

    yes, saw the taxi yesterday.

btw, I also like the way the stylis clicks in. I'm not a fan of the stylus (it bends), but thank palm for not having to use it much.

Yes. it Vibrates, but I have noticed that it vibrates at a different frequency than the 650. Palm has used a "Spasmodic Crophisator" that now throculates in the panoric arch!!! What were they thinking?!!!! I am seriously upset now. Between this and the blinking snowflake, I am definately devastated at the limitations of this device!!!!
