Looks like Seidio found a way to adapt the 700w extended battery to the 680.

I think I'll wait for the extended battery that doesn't require the new back.

Wow! Over double the capacity. Anyone have a pic of how far the case protrudes?

How about matching colors for the various 680 flavors?

I posted this in the Seidio thread as well, since I have been trading email with David and other members of their team for the last 4 days. The extended battery for the 680 with replacement cover is 2 -3 weeks off still, and here is what I posted in the other thread. This is a HUGE issue to me and I think that they are underestimating how important this is to all of us here:

    -------------------------------------------

This is killing me, and I HATE to call a vendor out on a forum, but they have been soooooo vague and elusive with me via email, I owe this to the forum to share.

after David started a thread about new products coming for the 680 (including batteries), and people asked the question about an extended battery fitting within the current form factor, I have asked now about 8 times with NO RESPONSE, I emailed David directly today and asked the following question:

Q:Will there be an extended battery that fits within the current from factor of the Treo 680?

You eluded to this in a thread a few weeks ago, so I want to make sure that this is cleared up, and I would like to have an extended battery, but have the option of keeping the current form factor!!!

    A: "HI Mattew,

Our product group is still working on this project. We do not have the conclusion yet. Sorry.

To me, (unless I hear otherwise) it is starting to look like they will only have a choice of either a standard (not extended) replacement battery that fits within the current case, or the Extended battery with the replacement case back, which is, as David has eluded to earlier, double the battery life of the current 680 battery.

They are not willing to go on the record with what they are developing, or planning to release, so those that are "on the fence" may just return the 680, and then there will be no need for the product at all. This makes no sense to me at all.

I have been a customer of Seidio for a long time, and plan to continue being a customer. I just wish that they would be a little less like Palm in regards to communication about their new products.

I think they goofed. Although it shows in the 680 list, if you click on the battery it only lists the 700p/700w/700wx as compatible. It also shows battery covers that are clearly designed for the 700 series.

Gosh, THAT's harsh, why should they provide detailed information UNOFFICIALLY?
They don't do that readers will be furious.
THey say nothing readers are still furious...

Let's just agree that PALM dropped the ball here (again... and again...)

How did PALM drop the ball on battery life?

People clamored for a smaller device, internal antenna, lighter device.

Palm release a unit that met those requirements, now everyone is saying palm dropped the ball?

I'm not overly impressed with the battery specs, but based on how I use the Treo, I know I'm far from an average user.

Heck, when Ihave to use my Blackberry as a primary device (and trust me, it rarely is my primary device), it can barely last a day.

I'm new here and I get the complaining BUT has anyone considered what might be happeing from Seidio's point of view. That perhaps Seidio WANTS to make a larger battery that fits in the original case but wants to TEST it to make sure that it will actually make an appreciable difference. Perhaps that during testing, they aren't getting results that they are happy with and that they are trying many things to try and do better than palm did. Perhaps at this point they just don't know. Maybe Palm did jam the largest battery possible into the space using that battery chemistry. Jeeze the things only been out a few days.

Designing/testing/manufacturing and distributing a product is NOT a one week kind of thing. Having to make plastic molds on top of that perhaps in multiple colors makes it even worse. Give the guys a break......

Perhaps if the battery thing is really such an issue for you then you just have to bite the bullet and buy a plain old palm battery for now and live like the old days of cell phones, with a spare handy nearby. Or return the darned thing since it obviously isn't the right product for your needs and come back to it when the free market has time to fix those faults.

I don't mean to sound harsh but it seems some people are getting more excited than is warranted or necessary.

    Well that's my 2 cents

According to a posting over at brighthand, lionbattery.com are working on a replacement battery for the 680 too.
    Let the race begin!

I forget... us gadget geeks have become complacent and apathetic to those EXAGERATED stand by/talk time estimates...

    They're accurate aren't they?

    o_O

PS, it just seems THESE battery need time to settle in, i want to read reviews of users who've continued to use the phone, THEY seem to say it does reflect the 2/3 estimates of the T650 battery; THAT's more of the kind of review that I seek...
