Hold down the home button on the 680 and you'll get a pop up of the most recently used applications.

This makes the default Palm launcher nearly palatable until someone comes out with a replacement - that will still hopefully utilize this function.

I did not see this "tip" in the manual that came with my 680.

mcphling is the only "desktop" manager i use, but if this hold thing can be managed....hmmm.

The user manual seems to imply that the shortcut keys that you assign in your favourites can now be used anywhere, not just within the phone app like it was in the 650. Can someone with a 680 verify this?

I'd like to know this as well.

It is anywhere in any of the 5 phone screens - the shortcut "buttons or keys" do not work when you are at any other program.

    So they work when:

    Dialer screen

    Favorites screen

Main Phone screen - which too me is worthless other than it does show a background and the next event but fortunately you can reset this to not be the default.

Contacts - show if you are holding down say "H" for home - it will jump to the H's and as long as you hold it down - it will start dialing (and it changes to advise you that it's dialing) whatever you have assigned "H" to in the favorites.

Call Log - holding down the shortcut key will prompt some beeps but will start the dialing for the assigned shortcut.

The bottom line - you can use the shortcut assignments on any of the five "phone" screens.

It may not be in the user manual (the big one on the disk...did you check--I didn't) but it is on the treo itself under the "Quick Tour" app that comes with every 680.

The Recent Apps feature was mentioned in most of the reviews for the 680, and even the coverage of the announcement press conference way back when. But I had forgotten all about it. Thanks for reminding me.

Unfortunately, since I'm using LudusP to change my home button to LauncherX, the Recent Apps thing won't work for me.

On other Palm devices with this feature, the MRU list does not include any app assigned to a hard button; is it the same with the 680?
    V > Vx > m505 > m515 > T/T > T3 > TC > 650 > 680

No - it does not act like the T5, TX or LD etc. It shows the last 8 apps opened regardless if they are assigned to a hard button.

I just downloaded the new version of Launcher X from GoTreoSoftware and this home feature still works.....I am in heaven.

I used Launcher X back long ago before the untimely death of Bozidar and I'm glad that GoTreo is picking up the development.

Everything is great except for this strange tab.

This is the only place you can enable contact searching while typing (see the Phone Display Options). I prefer the dial pad as default, and typing for contacts, or dialing, so I would rather have contact typing while the dial pad is up. Weird flaw.

Butler can do this (and it has a setting to let it work with KeyCaps).

I use the default tab because it is the only tab where you can quickly see your last calls by pressing (not holding) the green button. It does NOT work from the dial pad screen...

This feature is so cool. I found it one night when I was half sleep and answering a phone call.

    Moose (and others):
If you go into "Quick Tour" > Tips ANd Tricks> Menu pg 8 you'll find this tip!
The T3 does a similar menu if you tap and hold on the home icon.

I keep vascillating between using the PAlm launcher and Initiate (whic I just unloaded again) because although Initiate allows voice command tags - it cancels out several of my other mapped hard button functions.
This PRE is MINE all MINE! But if you ask nice I might let you hold it!

First time poster since I recently got a Treo 680 (had M105, TE and T3 before)

Another thing to pay attention to, when having ZLauncher installed (latest version 4.2), this MRU feature does NOT work anymore. I already filed a bug report with ZZTECHS.
Removing ZLauncher (seems to require Warm reset first, I did not try the 'recycle' trick followed by soft reset) restores the functionality.
