I see that the menu shortcuts have replaced graffiti strokes with the menu key+button combo and that there is no scratch pad program, can grafitti be enabled? Is there a scratchpad pragram that works (I had Sketcher on my old T650 which doesn't work on the T680) as it is very useful for jotting down notes. Thanks

Use shortCut5 .. I installed it on my 650 a year ago - I have just transfered it to my 680 (via Hotsync) and it works fine.

I don't really want or need graffiti at all but I DO need the shortcuts that allow you to time and date stamp things. I didn't even know it was gone until several attempts failed. How can I get back the little sigma and date/time stamp functionality?

As stated Shorcut5 is the solution.

Treo 680 has the shortcut for date and time stamp. The shortcut starting sign (the one you call little sigma?) can be inserted using the key "Alt"

Yes the sigma appears, but if you add d or t or dt, nothing happens. It used to insert the date/time
  9. #9
Try dt instead of d, ts instead of t, and dts instead of dt. 's' for 'stamp'.

No luck. The minute I type either d or t after the sigma, it disappears. I can't imagine I am missing this, since it should be in ROM, if you're right that it is still there, but it's as if I am missing some software because I also cannot call up the keyboard nor keyboard help. I just don't seem to have this functionality.

No, I'm wrong, I can get the keyboard and keyboard help, but it says notning about time stamping there. I had this on the 650 and it worked like a charm. I would rather have it than install another program, but it looks like its not part of the 680 functionalty. Have you really done this on the 680?

I've just looked through the manual. I'm sure you're wrong. You and Copernico must be dreaming, or living your past 650 lives, because the 680 simply doesn't have time/date stamp functionality. I think it takes the Short Cuts software. I hate to use it--I pulled it after the 650 because it caused a few conflicts, but maybe with the increased 680 memory it will quiet down. But I can't believe you're giving me this nonsense and wasting my time. Why wouldn't it mention this in the manual? Are you guys kidding me or does it really work in some mystical way?

On the other hand, the ShortCuts5 program doesn't seem to work within Documents to Go,which is where I need them, and where the old shortcut time/date stamp on the 650 worked fine. This is maddening to go one step forward and two back. Why in the world would they delete a good feature?

I was just mentioning to try the shortcuts with the 's' at the tail end, only because I know that that's the way it was abbreviated on previous Palms. It works on a 600, 650, & others. Don't know about 680.

    mdavis-

It still works, not much of a shortcut but you have to do a alt then the shortcut symbol. Then yu must change case to lower than you can ds, ts, dts etc. The D T etc does not work.

ShortCut5 does work within Documents to Go, no problem there on my 680.

    s <alt> <alt> <alt> d t s
    Or
    s <alt> <alt> <alt> d s
    Or
    s <alt> <alt> <alt> t s

Works for day and time stamps on my Treo 680.
I think you can set all of these shortcuts up in Prefs.

Check that when your are typing ts or ds, the "capital letter sign= up arrow" is not on.

Mdavis, I was about to write that you're right and jamesgangut and copernico are wrong until I tried making sure that "dts" were lowercased after the sigma. This still sucks because you have to press the sift button 3 times before inserting the sigma otherwise the 680 will automatically capitalize the "d" and the shortcut won't work. I agree with you that this is two steps backwards. On my old Treo 90 I had custom shortcuts for my name and all of my classes. It made starting new assignments so much better. With just a few key presses I had my name, date, and class name all filled out and the only thing left to type was the assignment name. I'm gonna miss those days when I go back to school. I would really like that functionality back without a 3rd party app.

You may not believe it, but I am studying these posts as if they are a calculus text. I can't figure out what any of you are referring to, but I'm going to try again to make this work.
