I have a Palm Unlocked GSM 650. I'm wondering if it's better to try to sell it on ebay, or just take Palm's $125 tradein offer here: http://web.palm.com/promos/treo650_trade_in.jhtml

Any idea what the typical selling price for an Unlocked 650 in good condition would be now that the 680 is out?

Well I'm new here - one of those "newbies who've never owned a smartphone" and I just preordered my treo 680 - after hrs and hrs of research and discussion and so forth it looks worthwhile moving from my nokia 6101!

To answer your question I did alot of scrounging on eBay and the places are reversed on there vs Palm.com - on eBay treo 650's are selling for $275 + S&H = $300 US while the unlocked 680's are going for over $500 US lol! I'd say it's best you sold it to somebody on eBay who can't come up with the extra $100 to go for a 680 unlocked from Palm.com..

As long as it is in good condition you are probably best selling it on ebay - mine is in "poor" condition because the volume rocker fell off! But putting "poor" in the condition field still said I should get $125 for it, so I guess it's worth a shot for me!

I think there will be a surge of 650's showing up on Ebay which will drop the value. Mine is in good or fair condition (scratches). I'll do the trade-in probably.

I would try to sell it here, then try ebay.

As of earlier in the week Cingular-branded 650s (most, but not all, of which have been unlocked) were going for around ~$200. I expect they'll be fetching less now that the 680 is out...and that an unbranded Treo may get a little more than the usual Cingular ones.

I am planning to keep my 650 as a backup. You never know when you will need a backup, and I would rather have the 650 then a regular cell phone.

Seems the trade-ins will more than likely end up on eBay anyway..the company that is doing the $125 rebate, Powertrade, is an eBay company :

probably better to sell it yourself there once you have a merchant eBay account...

I sold my for 220 (with extra battery). That was 3 months ago.

Yeah - if my volume rocker hadn't fallen off I would have been tempted to just sell mine - but I figure if I can get a trade-in on a "poor" quality phone, then I should go for it.

    Take the $125

New Cingular 650's are $25 on Amazon $49.99 with $25 rebate

And it comes with a free Logitech BT headset

Just to clarify, it's probably going to require a plan you might not want for most people.....but the advertised price will have an effect on what peeps are willing to pay for a used one.

that sounds like it would be a great idea, if only i still had everything required with your trade...

According to the terms and conditions:
When packaging your device, be sure to include your operating system software on CD or diskette, the Certificate of Authenticity, end-user license agreement and manuals. If your system was originally shipped with a restore CD, each of the above items will be on the restore CD, and not packaged separately. Be sure to include any documentation and accessories that were originally shipped with your device, these items could include but are not limited to: USB cable, stylus, charger, warranty cards, certificates of authenticity, manuals, and/or connection cables or cords. All items associated with each trade-in unit must be sent in a single shipment using the label provided. Failure to include these items will impact the value of your trade.

i doubt i could find my manual, let alone warranty cards. are they serious?
