I'd like to start this thread because I've never bought an unlocked phone before (I just called Cingular last time and had them unlock it). Like most people here, we want freedom from carriers (though this is proving to be less of an issue.) I had no idea about the Mobile Music Pack, which is a nice bonus. On one of the threads, there was mention of the docs:

    Support Documents

Do any of you know how to properly setup the Treo 680's communication profiles to work correctly with all the data and SMS/MMS features? Specifically, I have the old $19.99 MEdia Works (is that still around?) EDGE data plan, and wondered what additional steps to go through to make sure it all works. If Palm or Cingular already provides this info, please let us know.

    Thanks.

How about Bay area San Francisco Northern California Area

Should't all this come defined on the Cingular SIM card?

After all, after hard or zero-out reset, the Treo 650 just works ... probably getting it's information off the SIM card?

I found the Treo 680 is loaded into Cingular's 'answer center' and has a lot of these settings detailed in step-by-step instructions. Search on 'Treo 680 GPRS' for example.

I mean the info on the site mentioned by mceb. Whether other items are activated and installed on the SIM, I'm not the person to ask. I'd rather document everything here, then hope for the best.

I'm in the Portland, OR area and my voicemail number is different so I don't think you can go by this.

The Treo should be able to read the settings directly from the sim, you shouldn't have to enter them yourselves. The 650, 750v, and the 680 all seem to do this. I wouldn't change any settings unless the ones it reads don't work.

    Right, the advice would be:

    A) insert SIM
    B) enter information as necessary

    Let me revise that.

    A) Insert SIM
    B) Start using Treo.
