Ive been a Palm OS user ever since Treo 600 came out, and I recently ran into an AD on craigslist and saw a 700w for sale. I was really looking for a 700p, but it seems like they're hard to find.

My question is, is there anyone out there that was a PalmOS user, and switched to Winblows Mobile and actually liked it?

The only reason why i wanna stay with PalmOS is because of the programs that are available everywhere. I'm not really sure if WM has the programs PalmOS have right now....

It's as good a place as any... I would seriously recommend going to a store and "playing" with a WinMobile device for a while. I found the Palm OS to require fewer keystrokes to do most everything.

I would consider using windows but not the 700w. the 700wx for sure. its only on sprint though and I use Verizon. the biggest thing I hated on the windows treo was the 240x240 screen.
If I could know then, what I know now.

One has much too little execution RAM (e.g. like having an XP computer with 128MB RAM), the other has more than enough (like windows XP with 512 MB RAM).

    Big difference.

I have gone back and forth between palm os and windows mobile. I had the treo 270(palm) then the mpx 200(wm) then the treo 600(palm) then the ppc6600(wm) then the treo650(palm) then the ppc 6700(wm) now the treo 700p(palm). whew...

my opinion is windows mobile. I keep getting suckered by palm and keep going back. I am getting a 700wx soon and won't go back to palm. my 6700 was the bomb but I decided to sell it and get this 700p piece of crap. windows mobile has better apps in my opinion and is more ready out of the box.

I use my phones strictly for entertainment (web browsing, chatting, playing games, listening to music and watching movies). wm5 let's me do that right out the box. with palm I have to pay for a video player, an mp3/wma/wav player, even an app that let's me view the damn files on my phone. also all my pics, I have to buy an app that let's me edit them. palm is too much of a hassle. office documents like word, excel, powerpoint are support out the box for wm5. with palm, guess what?? yep gotta buy docs to go.

I am making my final switch to windows mobile and will not look back. I don't care about going down to 240x240 I gain so much more.

I will have my megamamece(arcade emulator) my morphgear(console emulator), my pocketg2(p2p client) let's you download mp3s a la kazaa, bearshare, etc... and slingbox. good ridance to palm 12-4-06 when I'm elgible for my 150 dollar rebate!!!

Docs to go is included with your Palm Treo. There is a music player pre-installed as well. There is also lots more software available for palm. I am using a Win Mobile device right now, and I use the same media player I used on my Treo (TCPMP).

I am just playing devils advocate as I like both palm and windows mobile. When it comes to a 700p vs a 700wx I would advise you to play with both.

well the ptunes stutters whenever you open another app plus it does not play wma or wav files. you gotta buy the delux version which is 34.99 . yeah tcpmp is free but I still have to download it and all those codecs. wmp is already there for me to play movies. and docs to go... the version included is a trial version. the first time you use it it activates itself and ends after 30 days. I thought it was included on my treo 700p for free. ha silly me...

I've had my 700p since June or July or whenever that was, and DocsToGo 8 still works - no nag screens or anything. There are probably advanced versions they will let you buy, but the app that comes with the phone is free. If I remember right there is a quick registration process to go through, but no credit cards involved.

The bigger and most important difference is that the 700w is only available with Verizon and the 700wx is only available with Sprint. It's not like they are interchangeable and you have a choice to user either model on either carrier.

IMHO, I went from the 700p to the 700wx and I really liked it. They both have their pro's and con's to them.

One is not BETTER than the other...it is just a natter of personal preference.

Lastly, I would definitely not switch to the 700wx until the SMS bug is fixed:

    http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...d.php?t=125673

It's a very long thread/read, but basically text messaging gets screwed up whenever you go over 140 characters and you cannot text to Verizon or T-Mobile customers. That is why I switched back to the "P" until the "WX" gets fixed. Now, if you could care less about text messaging, then the 700wx is pretty close to bug free.

    Just my 2 cents...

well, I bought a 700p yesterday... I don't see anything different from a 650 (besides its appearance, and the media programs)... But its a good upgrade I guess....

EVDO data speeds is the difference, and, for me, a huge one. Blazer, internet radio and email are infinitely better. Also, far better, more usable thumbpad and contoured body.

Don't forget, most PalmOS users are stuck in 1999, so it kind of makes sense.

Oh, excuse me! I'm not sure what decade your living in but today is November 20, 2006.

AND...Windows on a Treo...PLEASE, get the virus off the PALM device.

Somewhere between sad and silly when people start throwing personal attacks over OS preferences. File under "get a life."
