I am right now doing my first 700p HotSync. It is taking forever. It looks like its installing all kinds of stuff, some of it I used on my 650 a while ago and have since deleted, others I have no idea what it is. Where is all of this coming from?

I cleared out all of the default stuff it wanted to install on the first HotSync, then upgraded my DocsToGo and told it to install the handheld files, so all that was there were the DocsToGo apps.

So, have I totally screwed up my new 700p now? Where the heck is all of this stuff coming from? Its a good thing there's so much more memory on the 700p than the 650, otherwise there wouldn't be enough room for all this junk!

    Hi Cool Cat!

Did You do a Clean Install? If you did not rename your backup folder on the PC -- all the old stuff would come back. (Even if you deleted programs from your 650 -- they still reside in your PC's Palm directory backup folder under your userid and will be brought back during a sync to a hard reset current device or a new device that has no data on it -- the system thinks "I must restore.")

The 700P wants a fresh start: You can get your PIM data(Calendar, Tasks, Memos, Contacts) over to the 700P and create a fresh ready to go device by following the linked instructions below. I assume your data is still on the PC -- you may need to hard reset the 700p -- to clean it up before you start over -- read the instructions first to see if that is the case.

That's where I goofed. I got so excited about my new Treo that I forgot to change the name of the previous backup folder.

I did a hard reset and hotsynced to get my iSync and DocsToGo info on the 700p and it is working fine now. Is there a guide somewhere to which files I can bring over to preserve the preferences I had set on the 650? Things like Snapper's email accounts and preferences, all of my favorites buttons, my call log, etc., would all be nice to be able to bring over instead of tediously remaking them (where possible).

    Thanks!

Hey CC, let's see who jumps in -- I have not yet traveled down that path yet.

    1. Snappermail file names begin with "Snapper..."
    2. Favorites button settings are kept in "PhoneFavorites2DB"
    3. Call Log: http://discussion.treocentral.com/showthread.php?t=122989

I just searched the 700p forum for this stuff.
    V > Vx > m505 > m515 > T/T > T3 > TC > 650 > 680

    Ok, thanks Perry.

I went into my 650's backup folder and started to move some things that looked like they'd obviously not cause any problems. My Bible, DailyReader, some Snapper files. Its the things that have names that don't make sense to non-POS geeks that I need some help with.

I'm with you about not being sure on what to move and not move. Data Base files like your Bible, my reference books for e-reader and such are easy. But copying "programs and settings" from a prior device has and can cause trouble.

So, without full knowledge of what works and what doesn't on every program and file -- I just take the long way around -- and install all of my 3rd party software fresh on to my new devices. I do this with my new PC's, as well. Just never know what gremlins you may be carrying forward.

    Cheers, Perry.
